Upgrading RAM

Back in March, I posted about my computer being slow and a couple of people here were very helpful and told me to upgrade my RAM. Now that I'm in school and using the laptop more, I definitely need to do this.  But I have no idea how to be sure I'm buying the right thing.  I can find 2gb sticks on Amazon that say they're for Inspiron 1501, but they don't have technical specs so that I can match them to the RAM from Dell.

Any suggestions on where to buy RAM for this laptop?  Thanks!

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice.

I’m currently running on a four year old computer and I’m looking to improve my gaming experience. What I’d like to know is would it be better to upgrade my components in the old one, build a new one from scratch, or just buy one. I’ve done a little looking online and I’ve found a few prebuilt systems that I think would suit me just fine. I’m pretty competent with tools and putting things together, but I’ve never done anything with individual components before. I should probably mention that what I’m looking for is inspired by the Feb issue of PCGamer.

Under the cut are specs from my current comp, along with some builds offered by Dell and HP, and my minimum specs. If the prebuilts don’t match those, its either because they had a free upgrade or didn’t offer what I wanted. I’d like to not go over $1000 if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Upgrading?

 Question/Problem:
I hope this is okay to ask here.. I really just need advice. I just updated my computer with Windows XP. I'm hoping to be able to really play games on it(mainly sims 2) but others later as well. Right now, it's extreamely slow. My dad thinks I need a new video card. Well, I have no idea when it comes to this. Where do I start? Anyone know what would be best? I know the card we have now is very outdated, so I'm sure this is the problem. I'm really good with computers(I'v changed the video card before and all) but I have no idea what I need for a gaming computer so it runs smoothly.. any suggestions would be wonderful! Links to sites of stores with video cards you'd recommend would be awesome as well.

If there is any info you need, please ask =D Thanks!

Windows XP
Intel Pentium 3 Processor
384MB of RAM
902 MHZ

lmk if you need any other specifics!
