I'm Joey Peters, a writer, cartoonist, game designer and community safety organizer from Boston. Here you will find a variety of things: novels, comics, tabletop games, essays, reviews and more.
My main project right now is Dissidents of Utopia, a socialist space opera that explores the best possible case future for mankind and digs down into the unconsidered aspects of science fiction utopias. Mankind comes to face with a post-scarcity society that at least presents itself as utopia, but the truth is not quite so simple. The first book is available. Work is ongoing on the sequel. I have plans for some ancillary material but we'll see how that goes.
My side project right now is Shop Floors & Supervisors, a parody of old roleplaying games with a focus on socializing and diplomacy. It is very nearly ready to be playtested. After that I will get to edits and art. I'm hoping to have it complete by spring.
Other than that I post various writings, reviews, and new editions of some of my old writings and comics. You can expect some form of short form writing once a month and a rerelease of some classic material for the time being between intermittant releases of big projects.

So it’s time to inaugurate a new Star Trek series into the canon. Welcome, Starfleet Academy. Welcome to hell! A lot of Star Trek fans are really up in arms about the theme and premise. For the most part, Star Trek fans will hate anything new. Trekkies hated The Next Generation when i... Continue reading

I love honest slop, garbage content slapped together by weirdos with asinine obsessions that don’t make any sense. I love art without any artistic merit. Movies about pew pew lasers and giant robots fighting kaiju. Books “written” by actors about their iconic characters coming back... Continue reading

This is a serious trigger warning. This movie involves Nazis, Hitler, the Holocaust, pedophilia and Hair Metal. None of these are jokes. Hard Rock Zombies is a real monument to “why the fuck would you do that” filmmaking. It follows a hair metal band fronted by a pedophile who a... Continue reading

Greetings pals, I just wanted to give an update on what I’ve been working on. In a typical year June tends to be very busy for me, but for whatever reason work hasn’t slowed down since then. It’s fine. I’ve been neck deep in community organizing stuff and the end in ... Continue reading

The United Federation of Planets from Star Trek is often described as a post-scarcity communist utopia. Gene “Big Rod” Roddenberry spent the later period of his career congratulating himself for the progressive nature of Star Trek, and he even started to inculcate later version of Star T... From the second time man dipped his finger into a mix of rendered fat and red ocher he has drawn a circle with a dot inside it in imitation of a breast. From the second time man shaped clay figurines he has made bodacious milfs with big boobs and huge hips. When a new communications technology is in... Continue reading

Currently I have two projects I’m working on. I’ve spent a lot of time writing in the last month to decompress from all the hi-jinks I got up to during June. I am extraordinarily close to the end of the first draft of Refugees from Utopia. It’s the sequel to Dissidents of ... Continue reading

I think the Superman franchise of movies has averaged out to being mostly bad. While fans adore the Richard Donner Superman flicks and there are many fans of the Zach Snyder derived version of the character, Superman (2025) blows them both out of the water. The latest Superman film synthesi... Continue reading

At the start of June Jonathan Joss, the indigenous actor who played John Redcorn on King of the Hill and Ken Hotate on Parks and Rec returned to the site of his former home, destroyed in a fire with his husband. He discovered the remains of a beloved dog and while mourning with his husband an assail... Continue reading

This essay was originally published in the Boston chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America Political Education Blog soon after the Straight Pride Parade in 2019. It is presented with minor edits as befits this format. * * * Straight Pride is Hate Pride was a peaceful protest marred by repe... Continue reading

In Star Trek fandom it is accepted that Star Trek V is the “bad” one. The odd numbered movies were all dogs while the even numbered movies are all cinematic successes. It was directed by William Shatner because of a most-favored-nations clause in his contract, the Leonard Nimoy directed ... Continue reading

Faster than a speeding bullet; more powerful than a locomotive, able to make Warner Brothers mountains of money in a single bound. Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane, it’s Superman! Yes, it’s Superman, strange visitor from another planet who came to Eart... Continue reading

Neal Adams is remembered as the classic artist who created Ra’s Al Ghul and drew the fan favorite Green Lantern/Green Arrow social commentary comics of the 70’s. Neal Adams is remembered as a deranged crank who believed the center of the Earth was a portal to some unknown source of energ... Continue reading

How One Man Took Credit for Star Trek "He wanted to put a gigantic codpiece on the Ferengi," Wright stated. "He spent 25 minutes explaining to me all the sexual positions the Ferengi could go through. I finally said, 'Gene, this is a family show, on at 7:00 on Saturdays. He finally said, 'Okay, you... This has been a hell of a month. There’s a lot going on in the world and, well, if you know me you know what I’ve been up to. But to decompress I have actually squeezed away some time to work on my various projects. I’ve made a lot of progress on the first draft of Refugees from U... Continue reading

Star Trek is a TV franchise and it’s cinematic adaptations are profoundly hit or miss. I find that the original series movies-that is to say the first six movies, mostly work because they adapt a general type of episode you would see in the series: the ponderous new age gibberish episode that ... Pervirella is a 1997 British steampunk sex comedy exploitation film. Usually, bad comedies make the worst bad movies overall. Humor ages like milk, and failed attempts at comedy ferment into something even worse. Most of the intended jokes in Pervirella fail to land, but the movie puts so much effor... Continue reading

Dissidents of Utopia This month I finally released the ebook version of Dissidents of Utopia. I've already been hard at work at the sequel, Refugees From Utopia and have about 50% of a first draft. I have been noodling around with some ideas for videos related to DOU but have nothing concrete... Continue reading
