I had a really great night with my friends! We made dinner at my house, watched Letters to Juliet at the TAC, and then went to "Emerald City" for the dance. It was a lot of fun!

Going the Distance

Image The family joined the thousands for C and P's first cross country race this season. Curtis, A and T are 'outstanding in their field' ;)ImageLooking good.

Image Their first race was last weekend. This is P's first 1 mile race. Notice the untied shoe. He also is 18 hours past a 103 degree fever. He still finished 13th.

Image Overheated? Yup- another 95+ degree day.

Image She rocked! Finished 7th and got a medal!

Berry Pickin'

Image Today we went berry pickin'.
Image It was a cool 85 degrees...

Image so we went to Pop's Blueberry Farm and picked 2 gallons of fresh, ripe, sweet Blueberries!

Image I have always thought blueberries were tart because I have never eaten a ripe berry. Wow! What a pleasant surprise to learn that blueberries are actually really sweet and very yummy!

Image We ended up with 3 gallons of blueberries (2 are pictured here). We will soon be making smoothies, that awesome blueberry muffin recipe I previously posted and just enjoying them frozen. FABULOUS!

Image PLUSImage EQUALS....

Cornial Abrasion.

Last night I was tickling 'P' and unfortunately I got his big toe in my right eyeball! OMGoodness! I have an eyeball bandaid in the form of a contact lens and anesthetic eye drops to help it heal. OUCH!

Locks of Love

Image
Before....
'C' has been wanting to cut her hair for some time now. I put her off as long as I could because her hair was so long and we could do so many cute things with it. But the reality of things are that she has outgrown the "beauty-shop" stage of life and does her own hair now. It usually ended up in a ponytail or just going straight. Both styles of which I love but summer is the season of swimming pools and 90+ temps-neither are ideal with really long hair.
Image
During....
So in we went to the salon and her hair was long enough to donate to Locks of Love (minimum 10" donation).

Image After...
How cute is that girl? Man, I think she grew up right before my eyes!

Making of Men and June 1 Harvest

It's all about having the right tool.
Yesterday Bishop Huckaby brought his log splitter by to chop up a downed tree in the yard. 'P' got to run the splitter while the Bishop handled the stumps and Curtis loaded it all up onto the truck. All 3 of my boys then stacked it up neatly for use next winter. Good work boys!

Image The best part was watching 'P' run the splitter and grow a few hairs on his chest. He felt like a little man.
Image I finally planted my first southern garden this year.
I wanted to share what I picked from the garden this morning! YUM! I look forward to picking more in the near future. I have planted a very compact but productive garden. Zuchinni, squash, eggplant, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and green beans are all growing like crazy. I will be canning food within 2-3 weeks!

Mosaic Birdbath

I got a little inspiration recently.
Image I saw this birdbath at WalMart. I instantly loved it but saw that it had real potential...
Image My Mom and partner in crime came to visit and caught the vision with me. We have never made a tile mosaic before so this was a huge project for a couple of beginners. We searched high and low for varied tiles and ceramic dishes at thrift stores that we could smash to bits in order to create something FABULOUS!

Image This is the underside of the bowl...

Image and here's the final product of the pedestal. I think it turned out great! What do you think?

Growing Season

Image 'A' has officially grown into a size 12.5 and can now wear all of his dad's many, MANY shoes.
Check out those 'ships'! Hope he grows into his feet!

Pickin' a Winner!

Image It's time for March Madness ya'll! Sadly the LaTech Bulldogs aren't dancing this year (23-10 overall). This still doesn't dampen the anticipation of a great tourney and hoping that my bracket finally wins the family bracketology contest. Anyone else like the month of March as much as I do? I picked Kansas. Who did you pick?

Catching Up

I needed a new post. Something to focus on the positive. Thought I'd share what we've been doing lately...

Image T at District Honor Band playing her oboe.

Image Little league b-ball games.

Image BIG league b-ball games.

Image C singing with the AE Phillips choir (mulitple performances/competition over last 2 months).

Image School plays. Poor kid was one of the goats. Check out the over-the-top costumes from the other mothers. My little guy got to wear his sweats and a mask. Still not sure what a goat costume should look like.

Image
'A' playing the tuba in the Jr High District Honor Band (sorry a little fuzzy-took it from about 100 yards away).

Image Many, many school projects. 2 Science Fairs (both A and T made it to the regional competition-coming up soon), and a Mardi Gras float/social studies project. C's class got to parade their parish floats around for the school/community and throw beads and candy.

Image Spring cleaning.

Image Dance workshop and halftime performance (she's the one on the top/middle of pic with the curly ponytail).
WHEW! I don't know about you but this mom is worn out! Spring Break sounds GREAT right about now!

Avert Your Eyes!

This is a fair warning... I had a small tragedy today and I'm feeling quite bad for myself.

If you have eaten then please wait to look at this post...

This morning I was folding blankets and as I put the last one on the couch i kicked the bottom of the couch. The problem was the ONLY thing that kicked the couch was my toenail! AAAAHHHH! It just about brought me to my knees!

Upon further inspection, I discovered that I completely tore my nail off except for one little corner...EEEEEWWWW!

I tried to pull off the toenail myself with needlenose pliers because it was about 90% unattached. Yeah, THAT wasn't going to happen. Waves of nausea kept sweeping over me and I knew I needed the Dr.

45 minutes later the doc was butchering what was left of my toenail and my composure. One of the two nurses got sick to her stomach watching him cut the nail and pull it off and she had to leave the room to 'get a little air'. Wimp.

I know that these pictures are DISGUSTING but I figure that we are all lookie-loos at heart and can't help but look at the gore when given the opportunity...

Consider yourselves warned...Avert your eyes if you can....

Indoor Carp

ImageNo way could most fish live in the sludge they were in and show no signs of harm. They must be the indoor version of carp.
