Wahweap, Lake Powell- 2009!
Ah!!! It was so nice to get away to such a beautiful place. It was amazing! We left home about 3am so that we could drive while the kids were sleeping and be down there just in time for breakfast... Cami, Aaron, Kellen and KaraLynn pulled the boat, with Grandma, Dave and Christine following behind. We met Grandpa John down there at the launch ramp.
We loaded the boat about as full as it could possibly get (with it still able to float!) and drove around to find a campsite. We put all the camping gear and personals along with8 people for a few hours while we toured warm creek to find a good spot! It was quite an interesting ride, but it sure was fun!
After we found our spot and set up camp, we went out wakeboarding. Aaron, Cami and Dave all went, then Christine decided she wanted to learn, so she got out there and tried it!
Unfortunately we were not aware that there was going to be a fiesta that night- there was spanish music echoing thru our bay ALL NIGHT! Most of us didn't get much sleep due to the music in the background but it sure was pretty seeing all those stars out late with no city lights to distact from them.
On Saturday we picked up Amy, Steve, and Ryan. They joined us for a day- we went out tubing, and tried to teach Steve to wakeboard. We also gave them a tour of some of the cool canyons we had spotted the day before. It was nice to have them out.
Sunday Dave and Christine had to go back home, so we wakeboarded until about noon, then had to take them back to their car. We hit a small rain storm and waited it out, then not too long after we took Amy and Steve back to the dock as well. Then the adventure begins! We hadn't planned anything for dinner since we thought we'd get pizza at the restaurant... we hiked to the top, got to the restauant only to find that it was closed. So, we left and decided to go to Antalope pointe. We sat and had dinner, but of course by then, it was DARK!!! We got back in the boat to head back to camp and Aaron had accidentally turned the wrong direction, and we were wondering around for a few hours in the dark trying to find camp! We weren't sure if we would make it back, we were prepared to tie off somewhere else and find camp in the morning. But luckily, they figured it out! We made it back to camp~ hooray!
Monday was a lot of fun. We woke up and cleaned up camp before we headed out. We decided to get a 'Dangling Dog' and some ice cream from Dangling rope marina... Once we got up there we figured we would just keep going to Rainbow bridge. We ran into Cathedral canyon and decided to explore... that canyon was really neat. Aaron did some scuba diving. we did a little hiking and rock jumping, and just enjoyed the beauty of the winding canyon. We spent all afternoon there- and then headed back to load up and go home.
We can't wait to go back...
