C++ for cheapskates?
I have been keeping my Java skills sharpened between jobs by writing free software in Eclipse, and now want to do the same with C++: what is the cheapest way to program in C++?
I see there are plugins for Eclipse that allow access to C++, but what free compilers/linkers are there for Windows XP that these plugins can call? (I assume that. like Java, you configure Eclipse with the commmand-line versions of compiler and linker).
I heard a few months ago that Microsoft were about to give away the back-end of Visual C++: has that happened yet, and can it easily be integrated into Eclipse?
