pre-procesor directives

I'm starting with wcWidgets and have been happiy plugging away with demo code and things and am about ready to start writing my own stuff, thing is theirs are pre-procesor directives involved ... namely #indef and #define ... I havn't come accross these before, could someone explain them or point me to a quick explanation page?
