This might seem like a silly question, however, I was wondering if there was a somewhat equivalent version of Visual Studio .NETthat is available for free. I do have Visual Studio .NET 2003 but I would like to start helping my friends learn C++ coming up soon, and it would be good if they had the same type of program I had access too.

If not, what would be the best free alternative to Visual Studio .NET?
