MSDN, Visual Studio, and job question

Hey everyone,

I just installed Visual Studio C++ Express (YAY!). While I should have time after my finals end next week, I wanted to take advtange of your expertise and ask a few questions.

Have any of you tried these express editions? What are your opinions? I've used Visual Studio 2003 Home edition (was given to me free by my college), Visual Studio 6 Enterprise Edition (at an internship) and Dev-C++ v. 5 Beta. I feel very overwhelmed normally with Visual Studio because I never got the official documentation with either version, and didn't know how to really "master" it (I could make a project and code no problem, but I have no clue what three quarters of the options do).

While the MSDN is really useful, I find it very annoying to browse on the web. I was using a .chm file for a library recently and it was much better. I'm assuming the MSDN (and the samples) are available for download somewhere (I'll probably find it once I look around, but it's getting really annoying browsing the MSDN online).

And, on a slightly unrelated note, I have an internship position starting this summer. While I'm not very worried about finding a position, I'm required to go to interviews and sell myself. What would you want to see as employers as sample programs to demonstrate my skills? So far, the only significant things I've made were at my stage last spring, which I contacted and I can go there to take a few pictures of it and maybe get them to sign something saying what it does; and, I've done a bit of work (about 3000 lines of code) on an RPG battle system, which is *almost* complete (I've thought about creating an app that could let the user modify certain settings for this battle, like an editor, and then start the battle). When/how would you want to see the programs (should I mention it in a cover letter or CV? Mention it in the interview and offer to e-mail them the code?).

Thanks for everything :)
