Sunday Stampers 139 – Sentimental Journey

Posted in Cards, Sunday Stampers on January 30, 2011 by craftytrog

Graham, my OH, asked me for a get well card for his dad, who has just had an operation. Here’s what I came up with, and with its sentiment, it fits in perfectly with Hels’ challenge this week.

I made a background with my autumn leaves kaleidacolor ink pad, by smooshing it along the edge of my craft mat, spritzing it, then laying a piece of white card in it. I then flicked water on it, & dried it straight away with my heat gun. The stamped images are by Tim Holtz, & the sentiment is Stamp Attack.

Tim’s December Tags – 2007 – Tag 5

Posted in Cards, Tags, Tim's 12 Tags of Christmas on January 29, 2011 by craftytrog

Here’s my version of Tim’s 2007 tag 5, plus my co-ordinating card. This used a fabulous alcohol technique, where you dripped blending solution on your background, then dried it with a heat tool to stop it spreading, so creating a snowy look. The ribbon & beads were also alcohol inked. The colours I used were stream, stonewashed & denim. Please zoom over to Kathy’s blog, to see her lovely tag, and to take part in the challenge.

Stampotique Designers Challenge 23 – Orange and Turquoise

Posted in Cards, Stampotique Designers Challenge on January 28, 2011 by craftytrog

The Stampotique Designers have chosen one of my favourite colour combinations for their latest challenge! My first thoughts were to search through my box of scraps, as I was sure I had some orange alcohol inked backgrounds. Then I found a piece of fabric paper, that I made at my friend Penny’s house last year. The piece of paper that I stamped Peggy on, was the copier paper that I’d laid underneath the inky fabric paper, as it dried. I inked the torn edges with spiced marmalade distress ink, and also used it to add colour to the image. I mounted my layers on an orange card blank, & inked the edges of this with Nick Bantock cerulean azure. Finally, I added some turquoise prima flowers, & an inked adage ticket. The word Bliss just sums up my feelings when I’m crafting, perfectly!

Tim’s December Tags from start to finish – 2007 Tag 4

Posted in Cards, Tags, Tim's 12 Tags of Christmas on January 27, 2011 by craftytrog

Here’s my version of Tim’s 2007 tag 4, & co-ordinating card, finally! It was supposed to be layered custom stamping, but I didn’t have the felt required, so I used my Whispers brush markers to ink the stamp. Also, I didn’t have the collage stamp Tim used, so I used his Friends stamp. I think it works rather well for a christmas stamp! I covered up the friend definition with the Wish adage ticket, used a metal number 2 on the tag, & a grunge one on the card. A glittery pompom adorns the little boys hat, on the tag, and I added Dovecraft christmas bottle tops, & bells. There’s also a bit of tissue tape on each of them.

I forgot to do the layering unfortunately! I knew I should have checked Tim’s instructions again! Lol!

Thanks for looking! Please go and visit Kathy’s blog to see the other entries, & to join in the fun.

Compendium of Curiosities 29 – Weathered Wood Grunge

Posted in Compendium Of Curiosities Challenge, Tags on January 26, 2011 by craftytrog

Weathered wood grunge is the latest challenge from Linda, and the technique is found on page 50 of Tim’s book.

I diecut one of the styled labels & applied the technique to it. I also used a little grunge bookplate, & placed a little quote behind it.

I used spiced marmalade distress ink on my tag, edged it with walnut stain, and stamped with vintage photo ink.

The little heart is made with friendly plastic.

An Inky Day

Posted in Cards on January 25, 2011 by craftytrog

I had a lovely inky day at my friend Lucy’s yesterday, making backgrounds with Nick Bantock inks, and playing with my Art Journey stamps. I managed to make four cards. The final card was made with a lovely vintage Typewriter set from Darcies, that I borrowed from Lucy.

Sunday Stampers – Push the Button

Posted in Cards, Sunday Stampers on January 23, 2011 by craftytrog

I actually made this card yesterday, and all it needed were some finishing touches. As Hels chose Buttons as her Sunday Challenge today, what better embellishments to add to my card?! The little frog is also a button, that I cut the shank off. My background is inked with wild honey, rusty hinge, bundled sage, forest moss, & frayed burlap distress inks, then spritzed with pearl glimmer mist. The little girl & swirl are by Lost Coast, kindly lent to me by my good friend Lucy. The phrase is by Tim Holtz.

Be Passionate!

Posted in Cards, Sunday Stampers on January 19, 2011 by craftytrog

I thought I’d have a play with my new stamps from Art Journey. I used a couple of sets, Umbrella Girl & Chess, plus some Invoke Art stamps, Art Tickets & Script Words (‘Believe in yourself’).

I made a background, using faded jeans, dusty concord, & frayed burlap distress inks. I spritzed & then blotted to get an interesting effect. The umbrella girl was stamped on white card, coloured with the inks, & cut out. The tickets were stamped onto die cut TH tickets, cut from kraft coloured card. The heart is made with friendly plastic. I heated the FP, then placed some angelina fibres on it before cutting out a heart with a metal cutter.

Hels’ Sunday Stampers Challenge this week is ‘How does it feel’ by Slade, and we are to use feelings or texture. There are a few different emotions in the stamped text, and my friendly plastic heart has a bobbly texture, where the FP has been forced through the fibres, so I’m entering my card for the challenge.

Compendium of Curiosites 28 – Colourful Layered Fragments

Posted in Cards, Compendium Of Curiosities Challenge, Tags on January 18, 2011 by craftytrog

This latest challenge from Linda was a little bit tricky, as it involved an item I only have one of, and a couple more are needed to apply more than one colour. I used cotton buds instead! Intrigued? Turn to page 57 of your Compendium, if you have one, and it may become clear?! As usual, there’s a brilliant prize on offer for one lucky entrant!

And, as I didn’t join in with Linda’s challenges until week 2, I decided I needed to try week one’s Water Stamping, found on page 35. I feel complete now! Lol!

Tim’s Tags 2007 – Tag 3

Posted in Cards, Tags, Tim's 12 Tags of Christmas on January 17, 2011 by craftytrog

Here’s my latest tag for Kathy’s challenge. The Bo Bunny santa image I used wasn’t that great for the distress ep technique, although I did try it on the card  made. It’s been so dark and dreary here too, so the photos don’t really show the true colours. I used fired brick and peeled paint distress inks, with walnut stain around the edges.

Edit: I took some better photos as the sun is shining today.

Stampsmith Challenge 6 – Love

Posted in Cards, Stampsmith Challenge, UK Stampers on January 15, 2011 by craftytrog

For this week’s Stampsmith Challenge, Lynne has challenged us to make something with the theme of ‘Love’. It can be any type of love, maybe even chocolate!

I have some Stampsmith images, that Lynne kindly stamped and sent to me, and I chose to use an image of the Russian Tsar and Tsarina.

I’m also entering this card for Effie’s Sketch Challenge on the UK Stampers Forum.

Shine on You Crazy Diamond

Posted in Sunday Stampers on January 13, 2011 by craftytrog

One of my favourite Pink Floyd songs is Shine on you crazy diamond! Hels has chosen it as our inspiration for this week’s Sunday Stamper Challenge.

I used a cuttlebug diamond embossing folder on my background, the TH Alterations Ornamental shape. I painted it with aqua dabber, then inked around the edges with walnut stain DI.

The main image by Lost Coast Designs, is stamped on an alcohol ink BG, cut out, then layered with a scrap of music sheet. The dangling watch & phrase are made with the free stamps from the latest Craft Stamper.

Finally, I added a little friendly plastic crown, & a length of chain to hang my artwork up with.

Stampotique Challenge 22 – Put on your best Mask

Posted in Cards, Stampotique Designers Challenge on January 12, 2011 by craftytrog

The Stampotique Designers want us to use masking this week, so I started off by placing the Tim Holtz barbed wire masks at right angles on a square of white card.

I spritzed the card with Crafty Notions shake ‘n’ sprays in kingfisherlicious and mintilicious, blotted, removed the masks, then dried with my heatgun.

Next, I stamped Bowtie on the left, masked him off, and stamped the Welcome Door in teal blue stazon over the top. I stamped Bowtie again on a scrap of white card, cut out his face, and glued this in place.

I stamped Framed on a scrap of white card and cut him out, then stamped again on some spritzed card, to make his t-shirt.

I used Topknot’s hair to stamp around the edges of the card, then distressed the edges, and inked them with teal blue ink.

Finally, I stamped my phrase with Hero Arts alphabet stamps, and added some teal rhinestones, then glued my artwork to a white card blank.

Tim’s Tags 2007 – Tag 2

Posted in Cards, Compendium Of Curiosities Challenge, Simon Says Stamp & Show, Tags, Tim's 12 Tags of Christmas on January 10, 2011 by craftytrog

It’s week two of Kathy’s challenge, and here is my version of Tim’s Tag No. 2 from 2007. I only have the mini version of the snowman stamp that he used, so I added a few more snowflakes to pad it out. I used an X-Cut punch to punch some snowflakes out of some shimmery paper. I also added a ‘Merry Christmas’.

Image

I have made a co-ordinating card again. This week’s Compendium of Curiosities Challenge is to use the Distress Misting Masks technique, found on page 60 of Tim’s book. So, I decided to incorporate this on my Christmas card. As usual, Linda is offering some fabulous candy to one lucky entrant to the challenge.

I’m also entering my card for the Simon Says Stamp & Show challenge, which is Masking.

Tim’s 12 Tags of Christmas – 2007 – Tag One!

Posted in Drunken Stampers, Sunday Stampers, Tags, Tim's 12 Tags of Christmas on January 6, 2011 by craftytrog

It’s going to be Christmas all year round, as Kathy & Donna have challenged us to go back to the beginning of Tim’s Christmas tags, and create one a week, for the coming year. You don’t necessarily have to make a Christmas tag if you don’t want to, just use the techniques if you like. I thought I’d start with a christmassy one though, as I’ve just put my decorations away, and I’m missing them already!

As Santa is a very ‘Charming Man’, and I’ve also added a charm to the top of my tag, I’m entering this for Hels’ Sunday Stampers challenge too.

The Santa image is by Bo Bunny, by the way. It’s a new stamp for me, so I can also enter this tag for the Drunken Stamper’s challenge, which is ‘New’.

Wow! A ‘three-in-one’! Great start to the New Year! 🙂
