The Cookies Of Life

Posted in Sunday Stampers, Tags, The Stampman Challenge on April 30, 2012 by craftytrog

Here’s another of my marbled stains tags, decorated with PaperArtsy Hotpick images. I used red pepper dabber through the leafy Dylusion stencil & on the small tattered flower, before clear embossing whilst the paint was still wet. The seam binding ribbon was coloured with the paint & walnut stain DI, then spritzed with water to blend.

I’m entering my tag for Hels’ Sunday Stampers ‘Red’ challenge, & The StampMan’s Distressed/Shabby Chic Challenge.

Compendium of Curiosities 2 – Marbled Stains

Posted in Compendium Of Curiosities Challenge, Tags on April 29, 2012 by craftytrog

This week, Linda has challenged us to use Tim‘s Marbled Stains technique, which can be found on page 46 of his Compendium 2. Not my favourite technique I have to say, I struggle to get the marbled effects that Tim gets. However, I did my best (out of 4 tags! Lol!)

This week, Linda’s challenge is sponsored by Eclectic Paperie, who are generously offering a $25 prize to one lucky entrant.

Here is my tag, thanks for looking!

Stampotique Designer Challenge

Posted in ATCs, Stampotique Designers Challenge on April 26, 2012 by craftytrog

This week, Stampotique Designer Maria has challenged us to make an ATC.

Image

I cut my base from kraft card, then sponged white paint dabber through a Crafter’s Workshop flower mask. I stamped ‘Smile’ & the bees in black archival, then cut a tattered lace border from book page & glued it on. To finish, I stamped a bee on a ‘Giggle’  ticket, attached it with with three long fasteners & bashed them with my Tim hammer.

Thanks for looking, & don’t forget to join in the challenge for a chance to win a $30 gift certificate!

Create!

Posted in Cards, Simon Says Stamp & Show on April 24, 2012 by craftytrog

This week Simon Says Stamp & Show ‘Your Favourite Word’. So, remember that faux patina background my pendant of yesterday’s post rested on? Well,I’ve transformed it with a bit of stamping, some Ideaology & alpha parts, into a card. And, of course, my favourite word is ‘Create’. Who would’ve guessed?!

Compendium of Curiosities II Challenge No. 2 – Faux Patina

Posted in Compendium Of Curiosities Challenge, Jewellery on April 23, 2012 by craftytrog

For this week’s Challenge, Linda has chosen Tim’s Faux Patina technique, which can be found on page 58 of his book.

I decided to make a pendant, using Tim’s technique. I made it to match these earrings, that I made for one of Linda’s Grungy Monday challenges back in February.

Image

I used the patina technique on one of Tim’s Ideaology keyholes, dyed a pearl, using stream alcohol ink, added a couple of other beads, some chain tassel & ball chain to finish.

The Stampsmith Challenge – The Colours of Spring

Posted in art journalling, Stampsmith Challenge on April 22, 2012 by craftytrog

I made an art journal page for The Stampsmith Challenge this month. I used Dylusion Ink Sprays for my background, lemon zest, cut grass, vibrant turquoise, &  dash of bubblegum pink.

Image

I was in a well-known craft store yesterday, I went to see Kim Dellow demonstrating Kuretake pens. I happened to spot a fab old English alphabet stencil, which I used on my background, by spritzing the pink ink through, & also water.

I stamped the Stampsmith Audrey image on glossy card, cut her out, & glued her to my page. Then I stamped the phrase, cut that out, edged with black ink, & added that.

I used a black aquarellable pencil to draw flowers around the Crafter’s Workshop pomegranite stencilling, & also to add shading around Audrey & the phrase. I used an old credit card to add some black gesso lines, then finished by sponging black ink around the edges of my page.

Mr Blue

For his April Tag of 2012, Tim chose a couple of embossing techniques.

Here’s my version, using Mr Brolly Man, The Sizzix Fancy & Floral Frames embossing folder, a tattered lace border, & some of Tim’s stamps.

As Hels’ Sunday Stamper theme is ‘Man of the World’ this week, I’m Entering my tag for that too.

Bleaching Technique

Posted in Cards on April 19, 2012 by craftytrog

A couple of weeks ago, I saw Helen Chiltern using bleach to remove colour from images stamped onto a colourful inky background. So, I tried the technique out with my new dylusions. I stamped the PaperArtsy Lynne Perrella image onto the background, using black stazon ink, then painted out the faces etc. with thin bleach. Then, I just wrapped the image with a bit of jute string & popped it onto a kraft card blank, with a stamped phrase.

Artful Times – A Sea Of Greens

Posted in Artful Times Challenge, Tags on April 17, 2012 by craftytrog

My friend Sam has chosen her favourite colour for this week’s Artful Times Challenge.

I was inspired by the wonderful demos I saw Leandra & Lin doing on the PaperArtsy stand at the weekend, & decided to use some Fresco Finish paints in a variety of greens.

Image

I painted the base of my torn tag with Hyde Park, then used Honey Dew & Guacamole through a Crafter’s Workshop mask. I stamped the flourish around the edge with black archival.

The Suzi Blu Creative Girl image was stamped on cream textured paper, then I used watered down paints to colour it in. I mounted the image on black card, then attached it to the tag.

To finish, I coloured some seam binding with a wash of green paint, crinkled it up, dried it, & threaded it through the top of my tag.

A Compendium Of Curiosities II – Challenge No. 1

Posted in Cards, Compendium Of Curiosities Challenge, Simon Says Stamp & Show on April 16, 2012 by craftytrog

Linda has kicked off her Compendium of Curiosities Vol. II Challenge with ‘Custom Foam Stamps’ which can be found on page 66 of Tim’s new book.

Simon Says Stamp have sponsored Linda’s Challenge, & are offering a prize of a $25 voucher, to one lucky entrant. So be sure to go & join in the fun!

Image

Fortunately my book arrived last week, so I set to work this afternoon, & used some of Tim’s floral movers & shakers to make my custom stamps.

I stamped my flower with distress inks, over a background made with Dylusion spray inks. Then, I used a Stabillo Aquarellable pencil to outline the flower & add some doodling.

Tim’s phrase was stamped with black archival, & the hands stamped with broken china DI, before I mounted my artwork on a square kraft card.

I’m also entering my card for the Simon Says Stamp Challenge, the theme of which is ‘Anything Goes’.

Ally Pally Weekend

Posted in Ally Pally on April 15, 2012 by craftytrog

Just had the most marvellous weekend at The Big Stamp & Scrapbooking Show at the Alexandra Palace in London.

It was a weekend to meet lots of friends, old & new; watch fab demos; & of course, it would be rude not to do a little shopping!

The kind  & thoughtful Leandra, from PaperArtsy, gave all of her Twitter friends a little gift, you can see it just above the Pan Pastels in the centre. It contains a little frame, a butterfly charm, a die-cut bird, & some embossed metal. Just perfect to create a miniature piece of art!

Butterfly Tag

Posted in Simon Says Stamp & Show, Tags on April 15, 2012 by craftytrog

My poor blog has been neglected this week, while I’ve been working on a DT piece, so I thought I’d share a tag with you that I made a couple of weeks ago.

I was trying out the Indigo Blu mega flakes with Tim’s butterflies. I think I used the Yorkshire Dales flakes. I inked my tag with distress inks, then added some more flakes around the edge, before tying some inked ribbon at the top.

I used a ‘Tim technique’ to ink my tag & ribbon, so I’m sharing this tag with Simon Says Stamp & Show.

I’ve been spending quality time with friends, at The BSSS at Alexandra Palace this weekend, & I’m off back up there again today, to catch more fabulous demos & meet up with friends again. I’ll show you my new stash tomorrow ;o)

Easter Card

Posted in Cards on April 10, 2012 by craftytrog

Just thought I’d share one of the Easter cards I made, now that they’ve been received.

I used Crafty Notions variagated red gold flake on the Andy Skinner cross & Papermania message stamps, then inked with distress inks. Andy’s border was stamped with black soot DI, then wiped from the foiled images.

I hope you all had a lovely blessed Easter! xox

Friendly Plastic Workshop

Posted in workshops on April 7, 2012 by craftytrog

I spent a fantastic day at The Craft Barn yesterday, doing a friendly plastic workshop with the lovely Liz Welch.

Here are the technique samples that I made. I think the ouzing is definitely my favourite technique, & I adore the colours on my mosaic piece.

It was also great to meet up with friends Gaby & Deb, & I made a few new friends too!

Art Journey Challenge – Dictionary

Posted in Art Journey Challenge, Bookmarks on April 4, 2012 by craftytrog

This month, Jeanette from the Art Journey team has challenged us to use the theme of Dictionary in our artwork.

Image

I decided that I needed another bookmark, & wrapped a piece of grungeboard with dictionary tissue tape. I coloured it with alcohol inks (cloudy blue, cool peri, juniper & aqua). Next, I stamped the girl from the Chess plate. I stamped her again onto white card in black ink, & clear embossed her. I inked her with vintage photo distress, then cut her out. I glued her over the image on my bookmark, then stamped the circles above her. I snipped the top corners of the bookmark, then inked the edges with vintage photo.

Image

I used my finger to spread rock candy distress stickles all over the front of my bookmark & dried it. Then I coloured some seam binding ribbon with dusty concord distress stain, stamped ‘checkmate’ on a small piece & added it to the bottom. I also threaded some ribbon through an eyelet at the top. To finish, I dripped some cool peri alcohol ink onto the stamped circles.

Wild Woman

Posted in Jewellery on April 3, 2012 by craftytrog

I was leafing through a fabulous book I have, called Rubber Stamped Jewelry by Sharilyn Miller, when I spotted this wild woman pendant. I just had to get my fimo out & make one for myself. Although, when my daughter Beth saw it, she wanted it herself! Lol! I used a karantha stamp by Craft Notions to stamp in to black fimo, then once it was baked, I coloured it with various inka gold pastes. I made beads, by cutting triangles of fimo after stamping, then rolling it around a wooden skewer.

I had thought of making one for a DT post, until I spotted Frankie, our guest designer on the Artistic Stamper, had been fabulously creative with clay herself. Maybe, for a future post…

Unruly PaperArts Reader Art Quest 1 – Spectacular Sponging

Posted in ATCs, Unruly PaperArts on April 2, 2012 by craftytrog

Unruly PaperArts have launched a new Blogozine, & this month’s issue is all about ink. For their first reader art quest, they have asked us to share ink sponging on our art.

Here is a set of 3 ATCs I created for a swap.

Image

I started by spraying a mix of peeled paint re-inker & gold perfect pearls through a little alphabet & number stencil. On the middle ATC, I flipped the inky stencil over for a different effect.

Next, I sponged wild honey, rusty hinge, barn door & walnut stain distress inks over the ATCs.

After drying the inks I sponged versamark through a Crafter’s Workshop mask, on the left side of the ATCs, & embossed with Stampendous Aged Gold EP. This EP has specks of black in it, which are quite visible on the left-hand ATC. Love this stuff!

To finish, I stamped various PaperArtsy images with black archival ink.
