Tag It On – Art For Art’s Sake

Posted in Tag it on, Tags on August 31, 2012 by craftytrog

This week on Tag It On, Frankie’s recipe is Art for art’s sake, hand-made background, interesting character & quirky twist. I think my tag qualifies.

Image

I covered some grungebord with music paper, & die cut a tag with Tim’s Sizzix die.

I made my background, using Summer Distress re-inkers & a Dylusion mask.

I used stamps by Dina Wakely, Tim Holtz, & Dyan Reavely.

Inspired By Summer Distress…

Posted in Cards, Simon Says Stamp & Show on August 28, 2012 by craftytrog

…is this week’s challenge by Simon Says Stamp. I also got inspired by a recent YouTube video by Scraptime, which showed Dina Wakeley doing her stuff at CHA. So, I used the Summer Distress re-inkers & water to make some sprays, and got out my Dina stamps & a Dylusion stencil. I distressed the edges & added some vintage photo too, then popped on some alpha parts to make the word ‘wish’. I finished with a metal butterfly, glazed with a mix of cobalt Vintaj Patina & a little of the Vintaj Glaze.

Simon Says Stamp are offering their usual $50 prize to one lucky entrant, hoping I’ll win it one day! 🙂

More Kraft Resist!

Posted in Cards, Sunday Stampers on August 27, 2012 by craftytrog

I had such fun getting inky with Tim’s Kraft Resist technique yesterday, that I decided to use it again, but for a card this time. There’s a fair bit of green on it, so I’m entering it for Hels’ Sunday Stampers ‘Green’ Challenge 🙂

Image

There’s Perfect Pearls Pearl spritzed on the flowers, which were coloured with Picked Raspberry distress ink. The background was coloured with Mowed lawn DI, & the ribbon with mowed lawn DI & picket fence stain.

Compendium Of Curiosities 2, Challenge 19

Posted in Compendium Of Curiosities Challenge, Tags on August 26, 2012 by craftytrog

This week on CC2 Challenge, Linda has asked us to use Tim’s Kraft Resist technique, which can be found on page 41 of his book.

I can’t give too much away, you’ll need Tim’s book for the technique instructions, but I did use a mix of picket fence distress stain and salty ocean distress ink to colour some ribbon to wrap around the dress form. And, I used manganese blue archival ink for the stamping.

Whitewash Stamping…

Posted in Compendium Of Curiosities Challenge, Tags on August 21, 2012 by craftytrog

…is this week’s technique requested by Linda on the Compendium of Curiosities 2 challenge. It can be found on page 47 of Tim’s book. The Funkie Junkie are sponsoring this challenge, & offering a $25 voucher prize to one lucky entrant.

Without giving too much away, the whitewash stamping on my tag, is the word ‘DREAM’. I think it looks rather cool.

Simon Says Stamp with No Rules

Posted in Cards, Simon Says Stamp & Show on August 20, 2012 by craftytrog

The latest challenge from Simon Says Stamp is a ‘No Rules’ challenge. They’re offering the usual $50 prize to one lucky entrant.

Here is a card I made for my niece Sasha, not my usual style, very pink and glittery, but it does have some distress ink & stamping on it.

The paper was a freebie from a magazine, I covered some grunge paper with it, & die cut the letters & flowers, using Tim Holtz’s wordplay & tattered florals dies. I used a Crafty Individuals flourish to stamp on the background

Snazzy’s Steampunk Challenge

Posted in Hanging Art, Snazzy's DT Blog Challenge, The Stampman Challenge on August 18, 2012 by craftytrog

This week, over on the Snazzy’s DT Blog, the challenge is to make something with a Steampunk theme.

Also, The Stampman has challenged us to use precious metals.

Image

A while ago, I was inspired by a Craft Stamper article, to add some texture (i.e. sequin waste, hole re-inforcers etc.) to a PaperArtsy hanging chunky board, then cover it with gesso. I stayed this way for a couple of weeks, then I inked it with black soot distress ink, & spritzed with pink bubblegum Dylusion spray.

The die cut heart & wings were painted with some Pebeo Fantasy Prisme in moonstone & antique pink. The piece above it is something I found on my paper round…not sure what it is! It’s made of plastic, & I painted it with silver acrylic, & added the stamped face inside the ‘port-hole’. A few metal cogs & a Dylusion stamped phrase, & I was done.

21st Birthday Card

Posted in Cards on August 14, 2012 by craftytrog

My young colleague Dan was 21 last Friday, & I made him this card. You might recognise some more of that yummy Pebeo Prisme Fantasy paint on it 🙂 I used silver Krylon pen to edge the black card, & silver peel-off letters to spell ‘DAN’.

I think the paint pattern looks like a multi-coloured slug! Lol! I can even see a smiley face….can you?!

Tim’s 12 Tags of 2012 – August

Posted in Tags, Tim's 12 Tags, Uncategorized on August 4, 2012 by craftytrog

Here’s my version of Tim’s August Tag. He used a few new products, so I just used what I already had. The tag has perfect pearl heirloom gold mist on it, which made it rather difficult to photograph…I eventually got my shot outside. I have to admit, I’m rather proud of the roses I made with Tim’s tattered pinecone die.

The little charm has red Pebeo Prisme Fantasy paint in it 🙂
