The talented Suzz has been inspiring us over on the PaperArtsy Blog this week. I was inspired by her first piece of the week, & decorated one of paperArtsy’s large papier mache hangings. You can see Suzz’s lovely creatioN HERE.

Spiritual Art Class
Posted in Church Art with tags Church Art on April 24, 2013 by craftytrogWe have just come to the end of a wonderful art class at my church, run by my friend Marina & our vicar Karl. We focussed on learning to draw faces & people, using pencil, pastels & conte crayons, & trying to look beyond what we could see with our eyes.
In our final session, we were told to use just shading, & no lines. Here’s my 20 minute sketch of my friend Peter, using conte on brown paper. I still can’t quite believe I can actually draw, & I’m thrilled with the results.

PaperArtsy Challenge – Inspired by Linda Cain
Posted in PaperArtsy Challenge, Shrines with tags Fresco Finish Paint, Lynne Perella, PaperArtsy, Shrine on April 18, 2013 by craftytrogLinda has been using paste & shrines this week on the PaperArtsy Challenge Blog, so I decided to have a little play with my new stash from Ally Pally.
I took a Tando Shrine, broke open my pot of Grunge Paste, & used the gorgeous Cherry Blossoms stencil by Crafter’s Workshop.
I painted it with various colours of Fresco Paint, did a little background stamping with Mermaid Fresco & some Japanese writing from one of the PaperArtsy Hotpick plates.
I stamped the lovely image by Lynne Perella on crackley tissue paper, & adhered her with Fresco Satin Glaze. I used Limelight & Mermaid Fresco to add some colour, then stamped some black swirls.
I used Little Black Dress Fresco to edge the shrine, glued some lace to the bottom, then added some aquamarine Treasure Gold highlights.

Ally Pally – April 2013
Posted in Ally Pally on April 15, 2013 by craftytrogI just spent the most fantastic weekend at my favourite craft show, The Big Stamp & Scrapbooking Show, at The Alexandra Palace, in London. It’s a great opportunity to see all the latest products being demonstrated, but for me, the best part is meeting up with lots of crafty friends, old and new. I also do a bit of shopping! As usual, I went with my good friend Hazel.
Here’s my crafty haul…just a few stencils! Lol! Things to decorate, new Lynne Perella stamps & some pots of Treasure Gold from PaperArtsy(I spent most of the weekend on their stand, watching fantastic demos by Leandra, Lin Brown, Michelle Webb, Darcy Wilkinson, Gillian Simson & Jo Firth-Young)
After the show on the Saturday, there were drinkies in the bar with the PATWITS (Twitter followers of PaperArtsy). Here’s Gillian, Emma, Leandra,Lin & Karen, slightly out of focus after my glass of rose.
Here’s the slightly mad Minxy & Gillian, with Emma & Leandra listening intently.
And here’s Penny, Sam & Carol, three lovely ladies! I’ve known Sam and Carol for a long time, via their blogs & on forums, so it was great to finally meet them in person. And, Penny & Carol’s lovely art in the Craft Stamper many moons ago, inspired the direction my crafting took.
And, on my way home yesterday, after I discovered there were no trains from Alexander Palace, I ended up, by chance, on bus & tube with my pal Minxy. It was so great to have some more time to chat with her 🙂

Dobby The House Elf’s Great-Grandfather
Posted in Altered Art, workshops with tags Andy Skinner on April 8, 2013 by craftytrogIf you’re not a fan of Harry Potter, then you’re probably wondering who Dobby is! Well, I thought that this ceramic grotesque that I decorated at the Andy Skinner club, at The Craft Barn, looked just like the little house elf in the Harry Potter films. We used various Americana paints & crackle medium to transform our elves.
I’m just wondering whether to add some words inside the cavity, before I spray him with matte sealer & hang him in the garden. I just don’t know what yet. Anybody got any ideas?
You can click on the photos to get a closer look at the crackle.

Butterfly Garden
Posted in Country View Crafts Challenge, Hanging Art, PaperArtsy Challenge, Uncategorized on April 4, 2013 by craftytrogI created this little hanging for the PaperArtsy Challenge, inspired by Michelle Webb’s lovely seed box HERE. They are giving away some Fresco Finish Paint to two lucky entrants!
I used Fresco Finish Paints in various blue & green shades, and some of PaperArtsy’s Jo Firth-Young stamps. I finished off with a layer of Fresco Finish Pearl Glaze, which seals the paint, & give a lovely sheen.
I would have liked to have photographed my hanging in the garden, but it’s FLIPPING SNOWING AGAIN!!! Sorry, was I shouting! You can click on the photo to get a better view.
I’m also entering the Country View Crafts April Challenge, the theme of which is butterflies.

A Little Inspired Journaling
Posted in Art Journal Journey, art journalling, PaperArtsy Challenge, Simon Says Stamp & Show on April 2, 2013 by craftytrogI recently got hold of a copy of Dina Wakley’s book, ‘Art Journal Freedom’, & chapter two is all about symmetry & asymmetry. In each chapter, Dina shows a fab technique, and also gives us challenges, so I’ve used her technique from chapter two, used a grid composition, & tried to incorporated some symmetry, asymmetry, & the rule of threes. If you click on the picture, you get a clearer view.
Over on the PaperArtsy Blog, I was inspired by Michelle Webb, to make this journal page. Technically, it wasn’t a piece of art Michelle created for PaperArtsy, but I’ve used PaperArtsy stamps, so hopefully it’ll count for the challenge.
I’m also entering my page for Journal Journey’s challenge, which is ‘Quotes’; and Simon Says Stamp & Show ‘Anything Goes’.

Church Art Exhibition
Posted in Canvases, Church Art on April 1, 2013 by craftytrogOur church is holding an art exhibition, based on the Nicene Creed, for the period leading up to Pentecost.
So far, I have submitted two pieces of art. The chalk sketch that I showed HERE, I have framed, & added the caption ‘SAVED’. And, here is a painting I created, using acrylic paints and Portfolio oil pastels.
It’s been suggested that I should do some more paintings like this, so watch this space! I already have a couple of ideas 🙂
If anyone’s interested, our church is St Mary’s, Green Street Green, Orpington, Kent.
