PaperArtsy Challenge – Inspired by Kate Yetter

It’s been another amazing week of inspiration over on the PaperArtsy Blog, with Kate Yetter starting the week with a beautiful altered box & a tag board.

I was inspired by Kate’s tag board, to create this piece of hanging art.

Unfortunately, not a great photo, but if you click on the picture it’s clearer.

I started with a Tando board, then followed most of Kate’s step-by-step HERE.

I used some PaperArtsy Lynne Perrella stamps as I don’t have the Hotpicks sets that Kate used. I used Dylusions ink sprays, Melted Chocolate & London Blue, to spritz, & paint the images.

I finished off the edges with some Spanish Topaz Treasure Gold, then added ribbon to hang my art.

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge No. 1 – Ink Sprays & Mists

A little friend of mine had his 10th birthday this week, & here’s the card that I made for him…

I had a wonderful piece of mop up paper towel, far too lovely to throw away. I’d used it to mop up all sorts, including inks, mists, paints, & even glitter glue! I spritzed a little bit of Dylusions Postbox Red to fill a couple of gaps, glued the paper towel to white card, & mounted on black. Then I embossed, painted & added treasure gold to the chipboard letters, & finished with some Remnants Rubs & cogs.

Also added some treasure gold to the little wooden cog…

That’s Crafty Challenge – All at Sea

This fortnight’s That’s Crafty Challenge theme is ‘All at Sea’, & anything goes, as long as it’s Sea or Beach related. Make sure you check out the challenge rules before entering.

Here’s my challenge piece…

I painted some white card with Baltic Blue Fresco Finish paint, then tore three pieces to make the sea, gluing them to the bottom edge of a 7×5″ kraft card.

Next, I stamped the PaperArtsy JOFY Mini 23 onto 3 different Gelli Plate prints, using Jet Black Archival ink, cut them out, & glued them to the card. I used a black pen to draw some detail under the beach huts, & a white pen to add details to the huts themselves.

I free-hand cut some little hearts from contrasting Gelli Plate prints, & glued them to the beach huts.

I used Glossy Accents to adhere some Micro Beads to the waves, & added some Friendly Plastic & silver charms to finish.

PaperArtsy Darcy Journaling Challenge – Month 5

I’m nearly out of time to join in with Darcy’s Journaling Challenge again! You can see Darcy’s fabulous Month 5 Page HERE. This month she used JOFY stamps & stencils.

Here’s how my page started, with a few Fresco paints scraped on with an old credit card. Think I used honeydew, lake wanaka, space cadet, guacamole, pea soup & toad hall, though I can’t be sure 🙂

Next, I added some torn pieces of stamped tissue that were left over from the Lynne Perrella box I made HERE. I knew they’d be useful! I scraped some snowflake Fresco over the top.

Then it was a case of sponging Fresco paints through various PaperArtsy stencils, adding some shading with Inktense pencils. I added the little crackle pasted & painted Tando arch over a blue whirly void, & the Doctor managed to get into the scene again!

I finished with some background stamping, JOFY words & butterfly, ripped some paper to used as a stencil for the border, then tickled the edges, arch, & seed heads with some treasure gold.

The techniques from Darcy’s page that I used were…

Using a scraper/palette knife instead of a brush

Stamping on tissue paper

Tearing paper to make a stencil

Using treasure gold & crackle glaze

PaperArtsy Challenge – Inspired by Seth Apter

Over on the PaperArtsy Blog this week, new guest designer Seth Apter inspired us with a fabulous art journal page, using PaperArtsy Hotpicks, Sara Naumann Eclectica stamps, & his own stencil designs. You can see Seth’s page HERE.

Here’s my page, just before I got to the stenciling stage. Click on the photo to see more detail.

I then followed Seth’s steps, colouring Grunge Paste with Fresco paint, to apply through stencils. I used some Wendy Vecchi words & some Crafter’s Workshop designs. I used black & white paint pens to add outlines & doodling. I drew around a large lid with a black paint pen to make the part circle.

Another Lynne Perrella Box!

Last year, I attended the monthly Andy Skinner club classes at The Craft Barn. It was a fabulous year, & I made some really good friends, as it was the same people at each of the 12 classes. We learnt lots of Andy’s amazing paint techniques, & spent the last few classes working on our main project, which was decorating an Artemio box. Everyone’s boxes were so different in design, and I wish I could share them all with you.

I finally completed my box a few weeks ago, 6 months after the classes finished, she admits in shame!

It happens to go rather well with my Helen Chiltern inspired Lynne Perrella box, that I shared HERE 🙂

Dad Time!

I know it’s a bit early, as Father’s Day isn’t until tomorrow, but I’m sharing the card I made for my Dad today. He’ll be getting it a day early anyway, as he & my Mum are off to my sister’s tomorrow, but coming here for dinner tonight.

My card was inspired by Sara Naumann’s lovely creation HERE on the PaperArtsy Blog this week.

I used some old ledger paper, & brayered Guacamole & Beach Hut Fresco paint, instead of alcohol inks. I love these colours together, wish the green would photograph better though.

I didn’t think my dad would appreciate a flower embellishment, so I stamped the lovely chap from PaperArtsy Letters, plate 5. I did use some cut off strips across my sentiment border though.

I used stamps from Sara’s plates ESN05 & ESN07 on the backgrounds.

It wasn’t until I was photographing my card that I noticed it said ‘Dad Time’! Quite appropriate!

That’s Crafty Challenge – The Birds

I’m thrilled to be guest designing for the That’s Crafty Challenge this month, as well as for their shop blog, That’s Blogging Crafty.

Here’s my challenge piece…

I used a torn piece of corrugated packaging for my base, creating a background with gesso & Fresco Finish paints.

I stamped the Lost Coast Bird Diva on white tissue with jet black archival ink, then painted her with Frescos on the reverse. I used Snowflake Fresco to paint her face, then when the paint was dry, tore around her, & used matt medium to glue her in place.

I stamped Bird Diva’s hair around the edges of my base, and stamped the birds from Tim Holtz’s Mini Ornates plate.

I sponged Fresco paint through sequin waste, then added some stamped words, eyelets & ball chain to finish.

Lin Brown Canvas Class

I took a wonderful class with the lovely Lin Brown at the Craft Barn yesterday. I was joined by my good friends Gabby, Lucy & Julie Ann, which made for a riotous day with lots of laughs! Gabby also brought some delicious cake, as usual.

Here’s the canvas that I made. We used Lin’s stamps & stencils, Grunge Paste, PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Paint & Treasure Gold.

Amazingly, I actually finished my canvas in class for a change, just needed to add some pearls to the flowers when I got home!

We made Grunge Paste grass, which was fun!

Here’s a side view of the fibres we wound around the canvas sides, before painting.

A lovely end to a fabulous weekend!

Craft Barn Extravaganza – Day Two

I spent another wonderful day at The Craft Barn, watching more demos, & meeting up with some other friends. Julie Ann came with me, as she doesn’t drive, & we met up with our fellow PATwits Helen, Lin, & Lucy. Lin Brown & Jo Firth-Young were demonstrating today, & Leandra was back doing more of her lovely brayered backgrounds. Whilst she was munching a quick lunch, she asked if a couple of us would like to have a go. Helen & I jumped at the chance of getting painty!

Lynne Perrella Box – A Masterclass with Helen Chiltern

This weekend is all about The Craft Barn Extravaganza, & it started early yesterday, with a fabulous class with the very talented Helen Chiltern. We decorated a lovely storage box with Fresco Finish Paint, PaperArtsy Lynne Perrella stamps, & Tando shapes. Here are a few photos of my box…

I just have to decide what I’m going to store in it now!

I had a wonderful day today, watching all of the fabulous demonstrations at The Craft Barn, by Andy Skinner, Helen Chiltern, Leandra Franich, Neil Walker, to name but a few.

I caught up with lots of good friends too 🙂

I’ll be back there again tomorrow, as there are going to be a few different people demonstrating, & more friends to meet up with.

Butterfly Dreams
