I was so excited to be asked by Leandra to become a PaperArtsy blog contributor for the new 2015 semester!

The current challenge theme is ‘Shiny Stuff’, and I have used PaperArtsy Ink and the Dog stamps with Fimo Clay and Perfect Pearls, to make some wearable art. You can see my tutorial for making my jewellery here on the PaperArtsy Blog.

I’ve been struggling a bit with the old mojo this month, it’s that January blues thing I think. Don’t you just want to hide in a box until May?!!!

Anyway, I decided to tackle Tim’s January tag, to try and get things going, and here’s how it turned out. You can see Tim’s version HERE.

Kate Crane’s Calendar Challenge – January 2015

Posted in art journalling, Kate Crane's Calendar Challenge, Stampotique Designers Challenge with tags , , , on January 15, 2015 by craftytrog

I’m a little late with my calendar page for January, but I’ve been busy with design team commitments, which is why it’s been rather quiet here lately. Anyway, I had a spare couple of hours, and some yummy new paint which is under wraps until February, so I decided to make something for ME! January is such a dull month, so I decided to cheer myself up with some bright colours.

SANY4153ew

I used The Artistic Stamper Splats stencil for my journaling spaces, and Stampotique’s Agatha. I know it’s not February, but Agatha wanted hearts, and she wouldn’t be budged.

I’m entering my pages for the Stampotique Designer Challenge 178 – Colour Splash.

Thanks for dropping in,

I’m off to start filling in my calendar….when I remember what I’ve been doing for the last two weeks!

Art Journal Journey – Inspired by The Masters (part 2)

Posted in Art Journal Journey, art journalling, paint party friday with tags , , , , on January 2, 2015 by craftytrog

One of the abstract artists that I really admire is Gerhard Richter. I saw an exhibition of his art at The Tate Modern a few years ago, and was mesmerised by his abstract paintings. They were huge canvases of abstract colour and texture…wonderful! So, when I saw that Art Journal Journey had the theme of ‘Inspired by the Masters’, I decided to try and emulate one of Gerhard’s abstract paintings, using an old credit card and a serrated edge tool to apply the paint.

I’m also linking up to Paint Party Friday.

I had so much fun doing this, I hope you’ll let me know what you think.

Happy 2015!

Posted in Altered Art, art journalling, workshops with tags , , , on January 1, 2015 by craftytrog

After an early 5.30am start for work as usual, this morning, I am now home, and hoping to get creative.

I thought I would share an altered book that was done back at the end of November. I was very fortunate to attend a weekend of classes with the lovely and talented France Papillon. I found time, after that madness of Christmas, to add some finishing touches to my book, which I will be art journalling in, hopefully very soon.

Here are a few photos, you can click on them to see more details…

We began by covering our book with some fabulous rusted Japanese Tengusho paper, then added some painty drips.

SANY4059ew

We distressed the edges of the book pages, spritzing with mica sprays, and added pieces of lace, fabric and rusty tabs.

SANY4062ew

Lots of lovely rusty elements, and a wonderful vintage image supplied by France. The photo was altered with inks and LuminArte Silks paint, after a covering of beeswax.

SANY4063ew

More elements, altered with the lovely Silks, including the ribbon and cambric.

I added some coloured microbeads from my stash.

We also did some art journalling, experimenting with some more of Finnabair’s wonderful products, and made some ATCs, using France’s lovely Stampotique stamps, so I’ll share these also, sometime soon.

Have a wonderful 2015!
