Manchester Abstract 2

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on June 30, 2015 by craftytrog

Today, in my hotel room, I played with the 4″ round Gelli Plate, DecoArt Media, Golden, & Dina Wakley Media paint, Tim Holtz stencils, Fine Tip Applicator, and a PaperArtsy Ellen Vargo stamp.

Manchester Abstract 2 wI created the Gelli Printed circles first, then decided to fill in the top and bottom white space with colour. I sketched a black whirl on the Gelli Plate, using the DW Media black paint and Fine Tip Applicator, then printed over the circles. Added more sketchy swirls, outlined the circles, dried everything a little bit, then grunged everything up by brayering over the whole piece before the black paint was properly dry. Happy, happy, happy!!! Finally, stamped some white dots with the Ellen Vargo stamp.

I’m linking this to the PaperArtsy Stencils Challenge.

Happy Tuesday,

Helen Chiltern Class at That’s Crafty

Posted in Canvases, workshops with tags , , , , , on June 23, 2015 by craftytrog

I spent a fab day at Helen Chiltern’s class at That’s Crafty last Saturday, playing with Brushos and Carabelle Studio stamps, and getting extremely inky fingers.

It was great to see Helen, her classes are always a lot of fun. I also sat next to the lovely Lauren Hatwell, who just happens to be one of my PaperArtsy teamies. We hadn’t met before, but at the end of the day, it felt like I’d known her forever! Lol!

Here’s the panel I made…

Father’s Day Cards

Posted in Cards with tags , , , on June 21, 2015 by craftytrog

It’s Father’s Day here in the UK, and I made a couple of vintage, sporty cards for my lovely Dad and Father-in-law. I made two the same as they’re both sports fans.

I was inspired by a collage technique video by Carly Mojica on YouTube, and used some pieces of my Gelli prints, book text from Oliver Twist, and PaperArtsy stamps.

First, a couple of photos showing the collage background process…

The Jesus Prayer

Posted in paint party friday with tags , , on June 5, 2015 by craftytrog

Our vicar preached about The Jesus Prayer last Sunday, and I wanted to make a reminder to put up on my craft room wall. I used Dina Wakley’s black paint through a Ranger fine tip applicator, to write the prayer on a Gelli Plate print.

Jesus Prayer wm

I found this explanation of The Jesus Prayer, by Dr. Albert S. Rossi…

‘The classical form of the Jesus Prayer is,

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

The actual words of our short prayers can vary. We might say the classic version of the Jesus Prayer, or we might say, “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me.” We may say, “Lord Jesus, have mercy.” Or, we might say a Psalm verse, or a Bible quote, or some other prayer.

Monks of old said, “Lord, make haste to help me. Lord, make speed to save me,” all day long.

The history of the Jesus Prayer goes back, as far as we know, to the early sixth century, with Diadochos, who taught that repetition of the prayer leads to inner stillness. Even earlier John Cassian recommended this type of prayer. In the fourth century Egypt, in Nitria, short “arrow” prayers were practiced.

Abba Macarius of Egypt said there is no need to waste time with words. It is enough to hold out your hands and say, “Lord, according to your desire and your wisdom, have mercy.” If pressed in the struggle, say, “Lord, save me!” or say, “Lord.” He knows what is best for us, and will have mercy upon us.’

Have a blessed and creative weekend,

Art Journal Calendar – June 2015

Posted in art journalling, Kate Crane's Calendar Challenge with tags , , , , , on June 4, 2015 by craftytrog

Here’s how my May calendar looked, once it was all filled in. I love the black & white over that bold colour, think this is my favourite so far 🙂

May 15 Calendar wm

And here’s my June page, ready to be filled. I used some Dina Wakley Media paints (Umber, Turquoise & White) on my Gelli Plate, then used the Stencil Girl Buildings stencil around the edges, doodling with an orange paint pen. Used Basic Grey paper for the journaling blocks. Title stamped with PaperArtsy HPXT06. A bit more subtle colour wise, this month! 🙂
