A long list of key facilities around the world that the US describes as vital to its national security has been released by Wikileaks.

In February 2009 the State Department asked all US missions abroad to list all installations whose loss could critically affect US national security.

Julian Assange's lawyer has warned that supporters of the WikiLeaks founder will unleash a "thermonuclear device" of government files containing the names of spies, sources and informants if he's killed or brought to trial.

On the way to work today, after swearing at the radio for the 6th time, I realized listening to news was just not working for me. I was much happier after switching to music.

Yesterday I retired from active firefighting. Including time as a reserve, it adds up to almost 20 years in the fire service. I loved it and I will miss it but it was time. I will continue to do computer work for the fire department.

To be clear for anyone that might not know, I still work full time as a computer consultant. I was a paid on call firefighter (i.e. part time).

When I started the department averaged 0.5 calls per day. Now they average 3.5.

When I started the department was all paid on call. Now most calls are handled by 6 full time firefighters, 2 on duty 24x7. As of Jan 1, 2011 it will be 12 full time firefighters, 4 on duty 24x7.

I wander in and out of both FB and LJ activity, but right now I am loving the LJ a lot more and trying to be more active here. This is a home with good conversations. The other is a wall we take turns spraying graffiti on.

I am kinda pissed at WikiLeaks. This is no Pentagon Papers. There does not appear to be any goal here. That reduces it to passing around love notes you found, which might be interesting but is dead wrong. Not to mention illegal and harmful. I have seen almost no discussion of why. The news organizations who were given access have generally stated why they decided to publish, mostly if we didn't someone else would, but they are not discussing the underlying why of the whole thing. I am all for whistleblowers, and believe they should be legally protected. But I am not for simply releasing secret documents. The government actually does need to have secrecy for many things. What good is being done by this? And is it worth the harm?

Finally watching the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear that Nancy recorded for me. It is exactly like being there, except with 214,998 less people and instead of standing I am sitting on a comfy couch.

I am doing a horrible disservice to tongodeon but I cannot help myself. He gave a long extremely detailed and informative scientific analysis of the possible radiation risk from whole body scanners. I read that carefully and really appreciated it. But what am I going to do here? Quote one line.

"Complaining about ionizing radiation on your way to a plane flight is like complaining about a TSA pat-down on your way to Caligula's palace."
