Over 1.3M cruise passengers passed through Mykonos in 2024, along with 215k crew members; combined, they spent €126M in passenger and crew spending onshore. This direct spend, when combined with cruise line spend as well as indirect and induced impacts, amounted to €201M in total output from cruise related activity in Mykonos in 2024. With an average spend intensity at €19 per hour while in the port, the average per-passenger spend in Mykonos was €107, with the largest spend categories being eating & drinking, shopping, and taking guided tours.

While early cruises brought affluent travelers to the islands before the rise of air travel, today’s cruise industry contributes significantly to Hawai‘i’s economy by supporting local jobs, small businesses, and port infrastructure across multiple islands.Cruise tourism is managed tourism—with cruise arrivals planned up to three years in advance—and is an essential component of the state’s tourism strategy, connecting guests to local communities while helping to distribute economic benefits statewide.Hawai'i ranks 11th of U.S. states in economic impact received from cruise tourism.Approximately 35% of passengers sail on premium or luxury ships, and 36% of passengers are first-time visitors.Approximately 70% of the 38 unique ships that sail to or from Hawai'i are small- or mid-size ships.

A new report from Oxford Economics, commissioned by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), highlights the substantial economic value of cruise tourism to Scotland, underlining its role in supporting jobs, businesses, and communities across the country. The study found that in 2023, cruise tourism:Generated £343 million in total economic output in Scotland.Contributed £173 million to GDP.Supported 4,712 jobs across a wide range of sectors.Delivered £145 million in wages to Scottish workers.Produced £61 million in tax revenues, benefitting public services and infrastructure.
