From Jul 2024 to Jun 2025, it saw $205B in on-chain value, up 52% YoY. Nigeria led with $92.1B, nearly three times South Africa’s. South Africa ranked second, helped by its clearer regulatory framework, while Ethiopia, Kenya, and Ghana rounded out the top five.
In 2024, South Africa took a significant step by approving 248 operating licenses for cryptocurrency businesses, aiming to regulate the industry and protect consumers and implemented the Travel Rule for crypto asset service providers in 2025, aligning with international standards to combat financial crimes.
