Addressing Climate Change Through Policy Action

We connect the people of New Mexico to their political power to protect our air, land and water for a healthy Land of Enchantment.

Current Priority

Restoring & Protecting Our Lands

There are hundreds of abandoned uranium mines in northwestern New Mexico that many companies have walked away and left a toxic mess.

Current Priority

Climate Action Now

Relying on oil, coal and natural gas for the bulk of our energy needs is a losing proposition. Fortunately, New Mexico boasts a wealth of clean, renewable sources of energy such as solar, wind, biofuels, geothermal sources and more.

Current Priority

Connecting New Mexicans with Their Political Power

Moving forward, state leadership can center New Mexicans in the decision-making process by creating a culture of transparency, and addressing obstacles to full public participation in the policy process, such as language barriers, technology and access, and more.

Current Priority

Conserving Public Lands, Water & Wildlife

New Mexico’s natural beauty, cultural diversity, and vast public lands consistently draw new residents to the state each year, increasing demand for already scarce water resources through increased development.

CVNM Press Release – LCV 2025 Scorecard

February 27, 2026

Wednesday, February 26th 2026, Conservation Voters New Mexico released the New Mexico delegation’s scores for the League of Conservation Voters’ 2025 National Environmental Scorecard highlighting our state’s leaders’ work to protect our environment despite an unprecedented year with a record number of attacks on our environment and democracy. Our delegation fought against climate deniers in Congress who repeatedly chose loyalty to the Trump administration and Big Polluters over making life more affordable, safer, and healthier for their own constituents. The result has been higher energy costs for working families, lost jobs and economic opportunities, the selling of tens of millions of acres of public lands and waters to Big Polluters, fewer clean air and water safeguards, and increased pollution.
