Yes, Santa Writes Back

Did you know... that Santa Writes Back when you write to him?! Yes, yes, I know... Christmas is two months away but we in the Dadson household are already getting in the mood. We've listened to Christmas music in the car pretty much everyday this past week. Stopping in the toy aisle while grocery shopping at Tar-jay did not help matters either. I told the girls to write a letter to Santa telling him what they want for Christmas because they literally wanted everything in sight.

Now Back to the main question. Janelle explained to me today that Santa does reply to letters because last year she wrote him and asked for a hula-hoop. Santa had a bit of a hard time finding a hula-hoop because it was the middle of winter and hula-hoops are a summer item. However, on Christmas morning, he brought her some other gifts with a note stating that Mum and Dad would pick up the hula hoop and deliver it the next day. Ooops!

Okay, I can explain. What happened was Boo and I searched high and low for a month to find a hula-hoop but because of the fact that I'm a slave to Tar-jay, and "Walmart" is a bad word in our house, we neglected to search at the latter. Of course, that store would have the one item no other store stocks in the wintertime. We found this out on the Christmas Eve and with our nativity play underway and all our best friends over, there was no dashing to the store that night. That is how it happened the Santa (Boo), quickly drafted a reply that kept a five-year-old from having a major meltdown on Christmas morning.

Now, I look forward to the day she realizes that we pulled the wool over her eyes on that one:)

Morning people and not-so-morning people

What little girl jumps out of her bed every morning and says hi mom!!! What's for breakfast? Is today a school day? I want to wear my pink dress and tights (again) and on and on and on. Umm, that would be Alexa. Over in the bed next to hers, big sister covers her head with her blanket and I say, "five more minutes Janelle and then we have to get ready for school". Janelle is just like me in the mornings and Alexa, is exactly like her dad Boo.

So, the school year began about a month ago and I'm just now getting to fill you all in. Alexa is in preschool. She loves her teacher Mrs. Lyons and thinks it's hilarious that Mrs. Lyons has lions in her family grrrrrr!:). For the most part we have concluded that Alexa's favorite part of preschool is music. She's definitely our theatrical child - constantly putting on song and dance shows for our entertainment. She's also learning to write her alphabet, sound out letters, and color within the lines.Image

Janelle has been looking forward to kindergarten all year. The day finally came and it took all the energy of my heart to send her off on the first day. She's ecstatic each day she comes home from school and shares all about her day and the new things she's learning - responsibility, manners, numbers, letters and so on. It quickly began to dawn on her that she would have to rise early each day for the rest of her life (except for summer and holidays of course) so her excitement waned a little bit but she still loves it. We are amazed at how much she has grown. Just the other day she earned a noble knight at school ( a reward system for good behavior at NWA) and when I asked her what she did to earn it, she said, "I put first things first, and I was proactive". That blew me away but I better get used to it because she's only been in a school for a month now. She continues to be very helpful to everyone at home - incredibly kind and well-mannered and eager to learn new things.Image

Now to our little miss Audrey, who is not so little anymore. She's our self-appointed alarm clock. At exactly 7am each day, she sits up in her crib and begins to whimper or call out in gibberish until I had her her 6ounce bottle of formula. She then watches with curiosity as everyone gets ready for the day giggling and bouncing up and down when we say,"hi Audrey boo boo" or sing her favorite song (which was a favorite for her sisters when they were babies) "don't take your love away, your love away, your love away, tu dun tun..." (see me for tune;). So Audrey crawls at the speed of lightning. She makes it quite clear that she wants to be independent -- just hand her the bottle and get out of the way because she has things to, such as exploring all corners of the house, eating books, pulling toilet paper, playing in trash cans and you can make up the rest. What can I say, she's a cute butterball of joy and she fills my baby hunger (for now:) and I'm anxious to have more time to do lots of fun stuff with her come January.Image

And that brings me to my crazy life. I started my last semester of school with fifteen credits and got to drop one that I didn't need and I'm so relieved. I'm basically counting the weeks till I'm done. The girls need me, I need to be with them spending more quality time with them and Boo has been a great sport while I've been back in school but I think everyone is at the end of their ropes. So let's go, let's go. I usually want time to stand still for a bit but this time I'm in a hurry. Give me all the early mornings and carpool lanes you want but get me out of college. Already. I guess like it or not, I'm a mother to the core.

Secrets & Carseats

Today's dinner table conversation was about secrets. Alexa said she had a secret and I said,"you can't keep secrets from mum and dad though, you have to tell us everything." In answer to this, Janelle said "but you don't tell us your secrets," to which Andrew said "it's because we don't have any." And then we winked at each other haha. What followed was totally unexpected and we were amazed to hear of the plans that our little girls have been developing for us. Alexa said " when I'm big I'm gonna go to the mall and you can't come with me. Janelle is going to drive and you and daddy are going to sit in the carseats." Yep, you know the how the saying goes that parents who tell their kids "I brought you into this world and I can take you out if I want"? Well the child responds "I get to pick your rest home, you better be nice to me." Andrew and I are definitely praying that there are no inventions of senior carseats in our future.

She did it again

Yep, Alexa has gained a reputation for cracking everyone up in our home. We recently had dinner with some friends of ours and at the end of the evening Alexa got two little pretzels that she wanted to take home with her. As I tried to put her shoes on, she was a bit hesitant. I discovered she had one pretzel in each shoe to ensure that she would not lose them and did not want them to get crushed when she put her shoes on. Needless to say it took some convincing that I would keep her pretzels safe to get her to take them out of her shoes.

More recently, last night to be exact, Andrew asked her why Alma from the B.O.M had repented and was teaching his people the words of Abinadi. Alexa answered "because he was a SUMBEAM!!! That sounds like the right answer if you ask me.
