Win a Turntable in a remix contest!
I saw this posted on another community and thought it'd be better suited here for DJs, so I'm spreading the news.

Now that you've been totally infected with the undeniable catchiness of "Open Happiness" -- featuring Cee-Lo, Janelle Monae, Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, Brendon Urie of Panic At the Disco, and Travis McCoy of Gym Class Hereos -- here's a chance to make yourself even happier:

Some time ago a friend of mine started discussion (in another community) on how to do spins, crossovers, consequtive crossovers and so on. This also led to discussion if it is fair to learn fragments of song's stpechart via using stepmania. What do you think of it?
In my opinion, this is just useless, either one get rhythm and how steps and sound are connected, or not. So one can't really improve on a single song without improving on another ones. (Which leads to which, that's the question. Both leads to another one? ;))
p.s. English is not my native langauge. Sorry for possible misstakes.

DDR comedy sketch
Hey fellow DDRists

Thanks to people who commented/emailed me suggestions for songs to use in my comedy sketch about DDR. The sketch is up and running as part of the sketch comedy show "Killing My Lobster Takes a Cruise" in SF.
The director of the show ended up choosing "butterfly."

anyway, I thought ya'll might be at least a little amused by this. The sketch is called "Konami Power" and it's basically the concept that the ship's engines are powered by DDR. I've included a picture of it under the cut, and a review of the show, in which its mentioned. Thus ends my purpose of getting DDR into my local newspaper and onto the stage as well. hahaha. if any of you guys are in the bay area, you should check it out!

Song recommendations?
Hi, I am looking for DDR song recommendations, the ideal song i am looking for has the following criteria:

1. it must be energetic, but not too fast
2. it must must must have a good, strong, beat (actors will be dancing to it)
3. it must be at least 4 minutes long
4. japanese lyrics are a plus, but not necessary
5. a big plus for a song that starts out slower and builds
6. the catchier the better

I write/produce for the SF sketch comedy group Killing My Lobster, and this song...whatever it ends up being... will be featured in our next show. I need it ASAP, so any suggestions are appreciated! most DDR songs i have found are way too fast or too short...the actors in the sketch will be dancing for a full 4 minutes, so it cant be too draining.

if you cant think of a DDR song that would work, any j-pop or dance song will do that sounds like the above description, thanks!!

Toys R Us started selling a metal and plastic pad for $99.99....does anyone know if it's any good? I don't want to buy another red octane, they last along time, but not long enough for my taste.

you know you're a ddr addict when...
You know you;re addicted to DDR when...

I bolded all the ones i've done/do

You buy a pair of shoes / trainers specially for playing DDR.

You start taking a change of clothes with you to the arcade. So that you have a fresh T-shirt to wear on your way home instead of being drenched in sweat.

You only stop playing due to onset of cramp in your legs.

You carry on playing despite having cramp in your legs.

When everyone else sings "Boom, Boom". You say "Mighty fine dollar" instead of "I want you in my room"

People think you have a stutter when you talk about the game.

You dress in the exact same outfit like the characters dancing on the screen in the background all the time.

You have at least 10 mats for the Playstation in case one breaks.

You steal the panels from the arcade and try to attach it to the playstation so you don't have to play with the controls or buy / use those crappy mats.

You try to find all DDR on icq just to increase your icq list numbers and then brag about how you know all the DDR people in the world.

The local DDR arcade is now into the bottle water business.

You ask your new boyfriend/girlfriend "Have you ever been mellow"

The local arcade now has a private room with a DDR machine just for you.

You vote for your favorite DDR song on your national top 30 song on the radio.

Your personal ambition is to be a butterfly.

Your way of getting to know people is by dancing with them.

You dance on your hands.

You have ripped 14 pants trying to street dance (playing with hands and feet)

You have, through MAJOR alterations, managed to make your DDR mat at home exactly the same as the one in the arcade... down to the plastic arrow your swiped from your neighbourhood arcade...

You refuse to wake up from your sleep every morning to go to school, because you dream that you have eternal credits in the DDR machine.

You find yourselve banned from your neighborhood arcade for spoiling 7 machines with your extreme dancing style.

People at the arcade start asking you to change their money instead of going to the operators.

You dance on the 2nd side of the machine, while player 1 is playing his own, single player game...

Songs that you used to dislike are good now, since they were featured in DDR...

You start to wear a white hat, one glove and grabbing you crotch a lot.

When seeing an attractive women in high heels, your first thought is 'how can she play in those'.

At the arcade, you have more entourage than Madonna, Britney Spears, and Beyonce all put together.

You see arrows when you close your eyes.

You see arrows regardless of eyes open or closed.

You tap away steps on your fingers regardless of where you are.

You start doing DDR steps, in the middle of nowhere, regardless of where you are

You have important work to do, but load up DDR or Stepmania instead for a "quickie"

You can name any song on any mix, and sing along.

You know what Delight Delight Reduplication and Diet Diet Revolution are.

You had most/all of DDR Extreme on your pc before it even came out.

You can remember the exact date when DDR Extreme came out.

You whistle/hum DDR tunes

You have DDR ringing tones on your mobile.

You play DDR Music while you work on your PC.

You copy DDR Music to play in your car or on your mini/cd player

You have every single DDR game on your consoles

You are in love with one of the DDR background characters, and/or you can name them all.

You download DDR competition videos.

You have AAA'ed a Expert/Heavy song on the arcade machine.

You have mastered all the songs on doubles on any level.

You only play DDR at the arcade, no other game is interesting enough.

In the Groove like DDR?
Well, I played In the Groove Friday. I think, as far as the layout and the songs go, it's like DDR. I found a site that has the songs, although I couldn't find the SM files. My favorite's "Lemmings on the Run" by E-Rotic. It's really jumpy.

Anywho, here's the site: http://members.aol.com/kurisagi/itg/itgsongs.htm

I danced to "Lemmings on the Run" and got an A+. I think that's the only major difference between that and DDR. In DDR, it goes up to AAA, and ITG (In the Groove), it goes up to four stars. >.< Why couldn't they use the DDR standards again? Okay, uh, well enjoy.

You're DDR achievements...
Hey there (again) lol.
I decided to open a thread where we can all share our achievements at DDR since I did my first AA scores a couple of weeks ago (Those were on DDR Extreme for PS2... I'll try to do the same on the arcade soon). I had my digi cam with me that day so I took pictures of the scores (You can guess I was way too excited about it... lol) and I'm gonna post them so I can share my achievements with ya. You all can do the same if you want... or just talk about you're AA/AAA scores. *Since I'm kinda new at DDR I play at standard most of the time and I haven't AAAed anything. Soon. Hopefully*

Pictures of my AA scoresCollapse )

Hi.

My name is Theresa. I am 14, and live in Milford, Connecticut. I have been playing DDR since about November, 2004. My favorite DDR game is DDR Extreme. My favorite DDR song is Move Your Feet, by Junior senior. I can do standard, but I am just at the most easy part.

Also, how can I get songs for Stepmania (computer version)

Thank you in advance.

I'm new!
Hey there everyone!
My name is Eliana, I'm 19 and I'm from Bogota, Colombia. I started playing DDR last year and I love the game. It's so fun. I'm a little shy most of the time and I have a hard time making friends and stuff so DDR is a great way to meet people. I really enjoy the game. I was a little chubby when I started playing it and I've lost some weight since then. :)

I play in Standard mode but I'm trying to get to Heavy mode. :) My favorite songs are Candy love, D2R, B4U, The Whistle song (7th mix) and Burning heat. My favorite games are DDR extreme and the DDR 7th mix.

Hope to get to know you all soon! :)

Hi..
I just joined this community... So I wanted to say Hi and make my little introduction...
My name is Shay and I'm a big music freak. I never really got into techno too much... I like extreme music, mostly hardcore rock.. I'm kinda emo, though... I'm pretty shy... So doing this is a pretty big thing for me... so here's the story on how i wound up posting this...

A few days my boyfriend drove down to see me and was telling me that while he was here he wanted to go play DDR Extreme, because its in the arcade down at Boomtown Casino... so I decided I'd go and watch, because they used to have my favorite game, Soul Calibur 2... well... Soul Calibur was gone, and I got bored... so I played with him...
That was three days ago. He left yesterday, and I've been at the casino playing EVERY DAY since then.
Tonight, my roommate and I got on ebay and ordered the pads and DDR Xtreme, so this is about to become a serious thing for us.... And i'm really getting into the techno songs.. so much in fact that i came home and downloaded like 3 or 4 of the songs I've been playing with.

The thing is.. we're both what we lovingly term as FatKids.. I'm 20, and kinda chunky, and she's 26, and the same size as me. Now, my main motive for doing DDR is because its just like crack... super addictive, but will it help us lose weight?

How long does it usually take someone to go from beginner to light? Whats the best games to get for PS2? Should we get 'em all? But yeah... Just wanted to say hey...

Later!

New guy
Hay I was just looking around for a DDR comunity and saw you guys and though cool. Here is a little about myself. I have been playing DDR for about a year and became obsesed with it when I tried it the first time. I have PS2 and X-Box version plus I have an actual arcade in my basement. I play mostly on heavy mode (though I'm not great at it) and I have been to three DDR conventions. If you want more info on me and DDR just post and I will try and respond as soon as posible.

Did anyone else run right out to buy Extreme?
Haha, I just got it yesterday. It wasn't what I thought it would be, so I was a little disappointed. But it is a new challenge, so that much is good. (Though, some of the videos are just utterly bizarre). Anyway, that's not what my post is about actually. See, I'm having pad problems. I bought a lik-sang pad...the TX-whatever it was. It was really good. Sturdy and it seemed to hold up better than the soft pads. Though, it's no Cobalt Flux, of course...but, the back arrow is cracked. And somehow I think it's sensor shifted into the middle of the pad because I'll stand there and the down arrow will be flickering. I'm wondering if there's anyway to change the plexiglass covering without destroying the pad...? I don't wanna take it apart and ruin it. So, if you can help, it'll be appreciated!

Well, I'm new here, so I'm just doing an introductory post.

I started about one year ago at a friend's house, and I remember failing miserably at Sandstorm on Light. I got DDRMAX2 and played that until about January, where I took a four month break from DDR. After that, I started going to more arcades and began to acheive AA's and whatnot. I can now do Sakura, Max 300 and MaxX Unlimited, but I don't know about The Legend of Max or Bag yet; LoM because I haven't gotten the chance and Bag because I find it really annoying.

I'm a big fan of the Trip Machines, but some other favorites include A, Twinbee, Paranoia Evolution, Lupin the 3rd, Sakura, and Insertion. I'm really not that good, and I pride myself in my few catastrophic (probably spelt that wrong) AA's, which are Insertion and Matsuri Japan.

Also, my posting may be sporadic, because I usually only come on livejournal to check friends' journals, (my real journal is hosted by greatestjournal.com and is located here) but I'll keep up to date and probably be moderately active here.
