FAQ
What types of media are supported?
The software supports a wide range of media files, including images, video files, image sequences, HDR images, 3D models, and project files.
It is compatible with all common image and video formats, such as OpenEXR, DPX, TIFF, HDR, and QuickTime (.mov).
For most media files, the software can automatically generate a preview. If a format is not supported, you can always set a custom preview, such as a screenshot.
The 3D viewer currently supports the display of low-poly (game-ready) FBX and OBJ files.
For other formats like USD and Alembic, you can use a custom thumbnail or turntable rendering.
What are the different versions?
das element - standard
The standard version of the software helps you organize your digital media assets efficiently. It allows you to configure your pipeline and render templates, create libraries, and ingest files into your folder structure. Additionally, the machine learning feature assists with tagging elements.
das element - lite
The lite version allows artists to browse the library and load multiple libraries, functioning as a read-only version of the software. It does not support the creation of libraries, file ingestion, or machine learning features. Therefore, at least one standard version is required to set up and manage a library.
das element - cli
The CLI version is a command line tool that enables interaction with the software without a GUI. It includes a Python wrapper, allowing seamless integration into your pipeline for automating tasks such as ingestion.
Do you provide floating licenses?
Yes, only floating licenses are available, as they have proven to be the best fit for use in a production environment. You can also use the software as a single user. The Reprise License Manager (RLM) is used.
Is there an offline version?
Yes, the software is a completely offline application that can be used on-premises. No internet connection is required.
What is powering the auto tagging feature?
There are different machin learning models available. One model allows you to recognize common objects, such as cliffs and mountains. For visual effects elements, there is a handcrafted machine learning model specifically trained on VFX elements. For example, it can recognize main categories like smoke, as well as child categories such as fume, wisp, and steam.
How well does the machine learning work?
The auto-tagging feature will assist you with labeling your media files. However, you will still need to double-check all the labels predicted by machine learning.
In some cases, the results may appear inaccurate to a human user, and we cannot guarantee perfect labeling of all elements.
Nonetheless, the number of categories will continuously increase, and the model will be improved over time.
Do I always need to get the standard version?
Yes, the standard version is the core software that manages all the libraries, pipeline configuration, including naming conventions, and proxy generation templates. You will use the standard version to ingest new elements into your library.
What can I do with the lite version?
The lite version is designed for artists to browse the element libraries, allowing multiple libraries to be loaded. Think of it as a read-only version. However, if you want to create a new library, you will need the standard version.
Can I run the license server on a virtual machine?
Yes, you can run the license server on a VM (virtual machine).
