Over a month since my last post here and we still have access to LJ.

Apple iPhone 3G (2012)

My Experience

This was the 3G not the 3GS and it was a much used and long abandoned phone at that. As the battery had not been in use in recent years the phone didn’t hold charge very long. Reading around it appears that the charging on the iPhone 3G wasn’t very good in the first place. I still had my Sony Ericsson K770i and would use that as my day to day phone, the iPhone was more of a replacement for the iPod Touch and was used for apps and web access on WiFi.

Phone Death

In all honesty the phone was not particularly healthy when I got it. The phone didn’t die as such, just got replaced.

Apple iPod Touch, 3rd Gen (2011)

My Experience

You may think that this is a strange device to have in my phone history, however it was the Apple iPod Touch that got me into the world of apps and touch screens. I’d had an iPod classic since 2007 and was used to iTunes and the way that Apple devices worked. I was aware of the iPhone but it was way out of my budget. The iPhone 3GS was the common model of the time.

This was the first mobile device (not including a laptop) that used WiFi. With only WiFi connectivity and no camera this was a companion to a phone rather than being a replacement. Although the Touch could be connected to the Internet via Bluetooth connection to the phone I didn’t have a great data plan and such connectivity quickly drained the battery on the phone so tended instead to use hot-spots where I could find them.

With Skype on the Touch this device was heavily used around the house and certainly lead me to wanting a proper smartphone.

Phone Death

Unfortunately I lost my iPod Touch when out on a walk, however when I mentioned this on Facebook a friend piped up that they had an old iPhone 3G that I could have “if I could get it to work”.

If you get a txt message from a number you don't recognise claiming to be from a family member that has "got a new phone" ignore the message. When most people get a new phone they keep their old number. Insist on talking rather than just doing as a random text asks you to. #scam
