The best decision of the day...

... was to get back on coffee promptly and with a sense of urgency unseen even in times of despair and hopelessness. I afforded myself a cup of iced coffee. It is probably the least damage I can do to my teeth.

The whole point in getting coffee was to cope with my realization that the CS class I am taking is going to be a vicious enterprise. If I wanted this level of abuse and workload, I would have already been admitted to some 4T toilet law school to attain the same level of frustration with being behind all the time. The professor is a clear cut lawyer type that knows what he needs from students and he is ready to work them to death. I have 4 chapters to read by Tuesday and write a small research paper on top of re-reading two papers and one chapter from today because I need to know the material really well.

I sit in the front row, so two days in a row I got at least two questions in class aside from my activism. If you don't stick out, you also get hammered because the professor is fair. He will find you and ask you a question. He almost physically kicked people out from the last row in order to get them up front. I loved that, but it is a scary feeling to be under the gun of questioning. I just have this feeling like we should be sitting in castle like building, high ceiling fireplace auditoriums, carving our names into oak desks and roughing our loins on fine leather used by generations before us. All of that while we are absorbing knowledge and engaging in fruitful arguments and discussion. Splendid vision, isn't it? Instead we are sitting in a shithole 1970's room full of metal furniture with a humming projector above our heads.

I have decided to do what I always admired and tried to copy from other people - sit down and show some tenacity. I envied C's ability to comprehend mathematics and spend considerable amount of time on particular subjects. I tried to clone it as much as I could and I got by so far, but my current "improved" attitude won't cut it!

Second day free of coffee.

Image
Imagedeadinplastic
Yeah, I just totally kicked my ass using rubber bands and the medicine ball. In less than month and a half I dropped 10lb - basically everything I acquired eating disgusting loads of barbeque and allowing myself indiscretions like bread in the two month prior period. Having a car enables you to be a pig unfortunately and drive 20mi to the joint that serves most delicious pulled pork ever for every freaking lunch.

Today I bought something new - I found Wasa crackers in the magazine. I hope that they won't have the same effect as bread, but I am still skeptical. I do need a bit more carbs in my diet though. On top of that I increased my intake of pineapple to fight joint inflammation.

This is awesome.

This happens about once a month - I go to someplace on campus for a meeting and while coming back an urge to jump over that guard rail hits me out of nowhere. Trouble is I am an idiot. #1 reason i am an idiot - i was wearing flip flops. #2 always warmup before doing some jumping. I scaled a few obstacles with ease, but then nailed my foot pretty hard. Yet, it did not stop me. Then near hub lawn installation the stupid flip flops slipped from the edge of a granite block and barely caught myself before that edge of granite met my chin(i wouldn't want that dental bill from David). Sore chest and a few scrapes. I am about as good at LPK as a drunk chimp on cough medicine.

Does anyone have a spare wooden club? Anyone?

Sooo... the auto dealer I got my car from still can't sell two remaining Auras with roughly 30k miles on them. Looking at my gas bill, I wonder why? The best I have managed was an avg 25mpg on a highway while driving to Philly. At one point a fillup cost me $52 at $4.19 in King of Prussia. This made me realize the following - I am far better off with Taurus being gone because the damn thing was probably getting 14mpg to a gallon in the city and 22 on highway due to transmission or other problems. I am saving money already, but I don't have the four banger economy factor with my 3.5L V6.

Gas prices and trips. Dead horse edition.
Image
Imagedeadinplastic
Michigan gas prices average $4.07 a gallon

For my first weekend of vacation I will have to drive roughly 850 miles in the best case. This works out to $135 dollars at $4.10 per gallon at a very generous estimate of 26 mpg. This is not as horrible as it may seem at first. However, tack on 3 more similar trips - $540. This doesn't include in-city driving and all that shebang in between the trips. Car will be used very thoroughly during this month.

Hotel charges make cry just thinking about them. Everyone is going to sleep in the fucking car parked at a local Sheetz for all I care.

Food expenses is a whole other issue. I don't know how to address that cost.

I wasted my weekend watching first season of "Lost" and "Kill Point" series. I liked "Kill Point" a lot, but it is getting annoying with all the personal relationships and connection between the characters. Realistic accuracy is totally out the window. I must say that these movie marathons are cool, but they induce some kind of schizophrenia, where you start to grab onto the ideas in the film and constantly project them onto your personal success in life. It is one reason for me to not be a major movie buff because any idea that is not your own is plagiarism. Original intentionality gets you out of a gutter and makes you into an individual that can accomplish something amazing and it is bloody hard to come by.

Day 2
Image
Imagedeadinplastic
I am weening myself from caffeine. It is painful.

I stepped on the scale yesterday and got surprised. I have gained 17 lb since my lowest weight of 170. Roughly 12 of it only muscle though. I was mostly freaking out in my head:"Who let the chunky out?!", but the results are clear. My strength has quadrupled. I can do 4-5 times the amount of pullups and pushups I could do before the regiment. Gaining muscle is still harder when you want to do it cleanly.

I think that most recently exorbitant consumption of Clem's BBQ products is responsible for the weight gain. Pulled pork and a chicken quarter as a post-workout meal surely beat drinking a stupid shake. It probably helped that I ate a lot of chicken and buffalo on the side. Although, I ate so much of it in the past two weeks that I smell and taste BBQ in my mouth constantly today. No more of that stuff Diet pepsi probably contributed to bloat by changing acidity of my blood so I am happy that's out. Now, I am going into cutting phase.

I got paid today, then proceeded to spend 2/3 of my check on all bills. I have to pay only cable and that's it for the month.

It is really happening.
Image
Imagedeadinplastic
I just checked like two days ago the price of this Frontier and it was 20,498. Now it is $500 less. Either that truck isn't selling well or something. Domestic inventory is unchanged unfortunately like there is anything to look at anyway.

I am fighting three things at once on the diet front:
1. Dump a newly acquired habit to drink 1 diet Pepsi per day. It happened during the exams and I was out of coffee. Today is day one.
2. Dump coffee habit. This is a 3 headed beast that just keeps growing heads faster than you can take them off.
3. Quit eating bread. I thought it was helping me gain muscle, but now I think it is working against me by giving me whacked out feeling during the day of sugar crashes and sleepiness.

Fourth thing that I am not fighting is trying to get more protein inside me. It is crazy difficult to eat 1 gram per # of body weight per day. That's like 3 chicken breasts and 2-3 packs of tuna. Crazy.

Mom is coming on the 13th of July. I need to plan out Philly trip and a stay of 3 days, then Pitt, maybe Cleveland, Hershey, Baltimore, and NYC. I just hate the expenses that I am going to incur - hotel, parking, dining, and amusement, but I have been on a vacation only once in 10 years. This coming month is going to be loaded with this stuff and there will be mucho miles on my Aura.

Car buying day
Image
Imagedeadinplastic
While I was at work sipping on my first cup of coffee the lady from the bank came back with a call. I was informed that I was approved. ...skip bs... I needed a ride to Duncansville pronto. R graciously took me to the airport where I was able to get an awesome deal on a rental. Instead of a quoted $56+ rate from Avis, I stopped over at National Counter and flashed the guy my Penn State Id. Result was a Nissan Frontier king cab truck with 1500 miles on it for $38!!!
Nissan truck quickly induced me into a syndrom of "my rental is better than the car I am going to buy". The truck has zippy evil acceleration I should say. Tomorrow, I may try 4WD on something if I get a chance since I only got to spin some tires on gravel.

At the dealership I test-drove the following cars:
1. Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 - it has a better interior than "rice", but very small. My eyes were staring at the fucking visor shield all the time. I couldn't get the seat to go down vertically. 2.5 egine has some kind of turbine that makes noise on slowdown like an EMP went off. 6 speed auto transmission was available though! Achtung! Brakes + gas pedals are a little inconvenient.

2. Saturn Aura XE - the definitely premium interior screams EUROTRASH!!!!!!! Fast, quiet like a hybrid. I was like is this really a GM car? It snapped me right out of the Nissan Frontier's lasting impression(until I got back into it). I test drove the rest just to humor myself and not to be an idiot. Price trumps everything I test-drove on top of low miles. I bought that car in the end. Right now there is a deposit of 500$ sitting on it and I just have to finish doing paperwork with the bank tomorrow. I should get the car on Friday in my hands.

3. Honda Accord - awful interior compared to Aura and Jetta. Steering wheel vibration when car is stopped or slowing down. Transmission hiccups when accelerating and switching into next gear. It is probably the same issue reported in Acura's. Honda Accord has a problem with transmissions in '07 and '06.

3.1 Skipped the Civic in its entirety because of experience with Accord.

4. Mitsubishi Outlander - very nice, wheel has some kind of leather cover that is slippery on my hands. It was slightly abused, but it was very good to drive aside from needing new tires immediately.

The dealership is nice in a sense that they give you the plate and the keys and let you test drive alone! I found that neat. I reserve final judgement until the end.

The lot was just littered with SUVs and trucks. I found out why when I filled up tonight - 123miles in Nissan Frontier cost me $32.00(8.292gal at $3.85/gal). That's meager barely 15mpg. A run to the airport after the fill up cost me $4. WTF! Tomorrow, I'll get me some death metal running errands and some Tom Waits to scrub my soul with a rusted rake.

I am done with exams and now I have to only wait for my grades. I wonder how is that UofM gets out so early. Exams are done, but the wheels keep spinning. I can't help it, but my brain just made me write 500 or so lines of actual useful code. I need to drink a box(yes, a box) of wine and watch idiotic cartoons to zone me out.

I need to quit ninnyhammering and buy a decent car. I keep kidding myself that I can own a truck and actually afford it. The price is virtually the same at this point because inventories are stagnant if not increasing. It is ridiculous to pay $4 for fuel and maybe more, but the desire is so great right now that I am willing to endure the pain of such an expense for fuel. I just need a ficy vehicle to zip around town and not have to worry about the money for gas... unless I can find $3k beater...then put some lights on top of that cabin that can literally sear your skin and char the surface.

If this paper is to be trusted then possibility of injuries is very high in this vehicle unless you assume it is just stupid 18 year olds wrapping them around the poles. Also, I was a bit surprised to see Volvo S40 and S60 on the list. Data is old and most cars probably had only optional SABs. I am just never going to be happy with a choice of a vehicle, am I?

Exam taken. This is out of the way. I wasn't as prepared as I should have been. There are too many questions that I am not going to look up. I hate doing it after the exam because I will just dwell on it more. Weird thing is that during exam I was playing two songs in my head over and over. First one was Vanessa Paradise's Taxi and SOAD BYOB. I switched from one to another intermittently.

Today before the exam my team member was doing some kind of meditation and breathing exercise. I found it weird because that's how I spent my childhood under direction of my father doing a lot of those breathing exercises and martial arts. I am disillusioned already, but I felt like copying somebody again, wanting to be smart like them, focused like them, and etc. Original intentionality is very hard to come by so I stay away from these thoughts. Inspiration can also be plagiarism that robs you of your own achievements. Most of it was probably a survival instinct to be better than anyone because I felt threatened to look stupid when smarter people surround me.

I was surprised to find out that Google talk falls back on toolbar.google.com in case it can't reach talk.google.com.

Cisco sucks as usual. D is trying to persuade me in Juniper superiority. Cisco sucks, but it sucks good, long, and hard. Then he asks me how my certification is going and ... I probably have no use for certification at all.

3 days till exam and I am half procrastinating.

Coffee is the most important carcinogen ever that is not included into the food pyramid for some reason.

Right about now, I am savoring how I could be driving this instead of this. I walked to Weis today to get some groceries and it was not very enjoyable.

I spend therefore I am.
Image
Imagedeadinplastic
At least that's what credit bureaus are thinking. I found out two absolutely crucial things that I had no clue about before:
1. The cards you have must be used at least once every 6 or so month in order to be included in credit score calculation.
2. The maximum charge on each and every card you own should not be more than 10% of your credit limit on the given card, while still not exceeding 30% overall balance to credit ratio.

So I jumped the gun a bit and spent $55 on a 4.6lbs tub of AtLarge Nitrean protein mix in order to revive my score upwards. Those bureaus are sneaky, evil, and petty bastards, so I intend to play their game to the fullest - use all the cards and immediately schedule payments for unimportant purchases I make. I just hate to be concerned with this business of constantly making sure things are the way they are supposed to be.

I have been doing lots of walking, meetings, and reading. Reading is just never ending. I need a break from reading, but I can't take one. I am extremely busy until the 5th of March. After the 5th, I have a nice chunk of my time that could be spent on working out and doing whatever I have to do to catch up or get ahead. It would help greatly if I had a reliable vehicle to do all the things I want to do.
