My Yuletide gift is amazing! The Changeling by Zilpha Keatley Snyder was one of my favorite books and someone wrote me a perfect post-canon Martha/Ivy story:

Martha’s mother said “Yes, it does seem likely, doesn’t it?” and her father said “New York is awfully far away, though,” and her mother said “But the drama schools are famous there,” and everybody chewed over the idea while Martha sat stock still and stared down at her plate. The entire world was rearranging itself inside her head.

If you check out the full fic summary or the endnotes you might notice a major milestone for this fic: The Roller Rink on the Edge of Forever has lost its total chapter count question mark.

As for how soon we'll get to the end, I can say that the first draft of Chapter 44 has been completed and should be in beta by the end of the week or so.

I wrote only one story for Yuletide this year, but it was for a film I absolutely loved and I super enjoyed every word of it.

Summary:

The Double Lunch was the name of the fictional venue where a double billing of bands played in every episode of The Pink Opaque. It was also the name of a popular online community for fans of the show during the years it was on the air. Through interviews with former posters and an exploration of its archives, this work attempt to re-create a history of the show and the fandom that surrounded it.

I'm not sure that I can adequately describe the impact I Saw the TV Glow had on me the first time I saw it in the theater, but I can say it was one of my very favorite things to discover this year, and I'd already watched it at least a couple more times before even getting my assignment. I was thrilled to receive Poetry's prompts for it, which let me spend some time with the canon and with fandom history in general, and thrilled at the reception it got.


The rest of the year leading up to Yuletide, it looks like I also wrote exactly one story.^* Well, bits of it anyway. The following chapters of my Eerie, Indiana fic The Roller Rink on the Edge of Forever entered the universe in 2024:

I am deep into working on finishing up The Roller Rink on the Edge of Forever, and just posted a new chapter yesterday. (And also finally remembered to update the playlist.)

I met my monthly getyourwordsout goal in the process, so that's kind of a plus.

If a binge-watching marathon counts as a project, we're also working our way through every single episode of Bob's Burgers.

Enjoying:

evilinsanemonkey is writing the third installment of The Bureau of Lost series and has been a) creating a playlist for it, and b) reading the previous installments out loud to me as a way to re-familiarize himself with the continuity, which I've been enjoying immensely.

I need to go back and do challenges 5-7, so maybe look for those in the near future.
