In the mid 90s I saw a Danish film (at least, I assume it was originally Danish), which I really want to know the name of. It was probably for children.

It was animated, featuring little blue people who lived underground and were oppressed by rats. The story-line involved a small number of the blue people who wanted to go above ground and live free (a girl, her younger brother, their grandmother, their aunt and their uncle).

If I recall correctly, the uncle wandered off looking for mushrooms, the aunt got caught by the rats, the grandmother died in a card park(?) and the kids made it past a big snake(?) to above ground.

If you recognise this film, please let me know what it's called. Thanks.

Sorry for the shameless self promotion, but I'm a UK seller who is selling some Danish DVDs (film and TV series) on Ebay. I thought some of you might be interested.

I will be travelling to Copenhagen next week (Tuesday). My Canadian cell phone will cost a baby fortune to use. What is the cheapest I can get a cell phone for in Copenhagen? I will only be there for 2 weeks and probably won't go back for several years.

My Canadian provider will charge $2/minute if I don't get a plan and $25 for 15 minutes, $50 for 40 minutes, or $75 for 70 minutes. o_0

There has to be something cheaper available in Copenhagen.

Any suggestions please? Links? Yes, I can read Danish, I'm just too rushed to write correctly in Danish right now.

My phone has a SIM card, but it is locked, so I can't just buy a SIM card and use a Danish provider.

x-posted to the Copenhagen Community.

My apologies if you see this twice.

On 4 September 2010 I visited Århus festuge and parked my car with Danish registration plates on designated parking place near Nordhavnsgade. I paid for parking at nearby parking automat and put receipt on the dashboar of my car, clearly visible from outside.
Receipt from parking automat was paid at 12:58. When I returned to my car few hours later, I found parking ticket stating that my car was observed from 13:15 to 13:26. EUROPARK ticket was issued to pay 590 DKK.
I stayed in Århus over the weekend and when came back home there was already letter from EUROPARK stating that since I did not pay my ticket, they have to send me this reminder and it costed them 100 DKK to send it.
I responded to the following address:
EuroPark A/S
Att.: Brugerafdelingen
Postboks 275
7100 Vejle

In my response I described where I parked, when I paid and that I did have receipt from parking automat on my car dashboard. There were no response to that letter until today, when I got another automated notice, stating that they have not received my payment and it costed them again 100 DKK to send this reminder. So the amount I have to pay increased to 790 DKK.
This reminder was sent on 13 October 2010 according to the date on the letter, but I only got it in my post box today. Reminder requires me to pay in 10 days.

I feel that EUROPARK was extremely unfair in dealing with me and simply ignored my letter. Is there any place I can complain about actions of this company?

I have elderberries, so I thought I would look up some Danish recipes. I found a bunch. There is one for a cake that calls for friske ribbede hyldebær. What does ribbede mean? I searched online and looked it up in my Danish dictionary, but I couldn't find anything relevant to elderberries.

Dear people, help me! I have to hold a presentation next week on language around the Øresund region. I have absolutely no idea what I should talk about -- and where to start looking. I'm absolutely helpless, I can't even acces academical books at the moment. Any kind of clue would be highly appreciated! You'd be saving my life.

x-posted, sorry.

I find the Danish "reality" series (who shamelessly copy the American show formats), whether they be "Extreme Makeover", "Idol", or a show about the everday chaos at the local international airport, insanely amusing. What's funny about it is how you can just sense, behind that camera lense, how desperate whoever has created the show is to get some good, gritty, colorful drama on screen.

But it simply won't ever happen. Not with Danes on TV.

The other day I was watching a reality show on our state-run channel, and it's about uniting lost loved ones with eachother. This particular episode revolved around an older mother who hadn't seen her daughter since she was 5 and had located her in Australia. Throughout the episode, there was this melancholic score in the background desperately accompaning the climax buildup of her finally coming face to face with her daughter.
And yet, when they met eachother, all there was were cold hugs and a weird sense of diplomacy that you'd never find in say, Americans, doing the same thing. There wasn't a single fucking tear shed! When the presenter asked the mother how she felt finally meeting her daughter, she replied stoicly, "Der er bare så fantastisk", which means, "It is just fantastic". Lots of nodding and uncomfortable smiles. And then of course, over a cup of coffee, the mother and daughter had a very lame conversation about a whole lot of nothing, and all in all it came across as a bad acting course.

I find this interesting because once my ex-boyfriend Anders and I were watching American TV and there was a similar show about two people seeing eachother after being seperated for years and the moment they laid eyes on eachother, they were shrieking as if the apocalpyse was coming. They were jumping up and down violently, smiling; tears were flying like daggers off of their faces. The audience of course, were full of big, wide smiles, practically waving there arms and hands back and forth out of support (lots of turtle necks and fat soccer moms clapping). Anders looked over to me and said, "my god, Americans are just so good at...reacting with the right emotions at the perfect moments. I keep thinking it's contrived, but it's not, it's something that's ingrained within them...like they're all actors or something".

If you watch the majority of Danish shows, people really, really, hold back their emotions. They also seem so incredibly stiff. I'm not sure where the fear of showing emotion (albeit the American way is certainly exaggerated) stems from, especially because this is such a tribal, tiny nation. You'd think people felt more united with eachother but they don't. Even my father, when we are abroad traveling, won't strike a conversation with a fellow Dane. We were in Ecuador and there were a group of Danes next to us and he felt no reason to say "hi". I find that so strange. And yet, shove a camera in an American's face, and they'll give you anything you want to see. Ask them if they were abused as a child, and they'll end up fanning their face crying and telling you all about it plus how they have 3 kids and work 4 jobs and it's so ~hawd~, yet they believe in God too, and that's what's getting them through it.

I think what I'm getting at is from an early age, Americans are taught subconciously through our overreaching media, that expressing emotions, good or bad, is always a positive thing. I believe that Americans like to put on a show of some sort, and it probably comes from the fact we've been watching so many people being exposed through our media whether they be celebrities, presidents, lottery winners, guests on talk shows, etc. The fact that couples go on live TV such as on Dr. Phil and splill their guts about their sex lives is considered absolutely appaling here in Denmark. My dad vehmently believes Oprah and Dr. Phil hires actors to be guests on their shows, he simply doesn't get it.

Idk, a difference I find funny and interesting about these two cultures.

I have visitors coming to Denmark and I'm trying to put some entertainment program for two weeks. We would be traveling by car.

Is there some places in Jylland and Fyn, that are your absolute favorites? Places interesting from historical and cultural perspective? Something that unique to Denmark and tells about Denmark. Bonus points for being easy to access for seniors.

For example:
Visiting H.C. Andersens House in Odense is good
Lalandia is not

Hej!
