At Daniels Park, home to descendants of DZCA’s first bison herd, we’re pioneering a program to breed and reintroduce rainbow scarab beetles. These iridescent insects play a vital role in the ecosystem, burying bison dung to improve soil quality, support plant health, and disperse native seeds.

To ensure this program’s success, DZCA conducts ongoing soil testing to measure effectiveness, which costs $1,300 per year. Visit the link in our bio to donate now.

Ground hornbills are curious, clever, and absolutely convinced they deserve to be the center of attention.

Bunsen and Merry live with our yellow-backed duiker, Salma, and can often be found exploring their yard, grooming each other, and investigating everything their animal care staff have on them.

We love these bold, curious birds. Stop by the Zoo to say hi to Bunsen, Merry and our other hornbill species!
