Whenever you provide such information, we are legally obliged to process it in line with all relevant local laws concerning the protection of personal information derived from the UK/EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Data Protection Act 2018 and other relevant privacy laws and associated regulatory guidance.

This Privacy Policy sets out how we collect, process, and protect any personal information you provide to us, or through a third party, whether online, via phone, text, email, or otherwise.  Data protection laws and this policy apply to the processing of personal data relating to customers, clients, suppliers and partners’ personal data, and any other data subject whose data we collect, store and process, including individuals whose images we capture on any CCTV equipment or monitoring technology we deploy on behalf of our customers.

  1. What information do we collect?

We collect client/customer information for the purposes described under section 4 below, to provide the contracted service/s. This may include your name, address, telephone numbers, email address, insurance information and details of the property or valuable(s) to be protected.

Where we undertake monitoring/surveillance activities on behalf of our clients/customers, which may be through technology such as CCTV or motion activated devices, we may collect images of individuals (data subjects) through the deployment of those surveillance activities. Where appropriate to do so we will put signage up in close proximity to the relevant device, notifying that monitoring and surveillance is taking place.

When you call our call centre, or they call you, we may record those telephone calls.

We will use the details that you provide to us to provide the services and discharge our obligations to you that we have stated to provide, namely, to assist you in monitoring, protecting, identifying, and recovering your property. 

SmartWater:

The SmartWater© you receive will be uniquely coded and will be linked to the address (domestic or business) you have provided us with so that we may use it for the legitimate purpose of tracing you as the owner if your marked property is recovered. Other than as set out below, ‘we’ will only use your information for the purposes that you would reasonably expect or that we state when we collect it.

Marketing and market research

We may send you direct marketing in relation to our own products and services by phone and post, if this is in line with any marketing preferences that we have asked you to provide and that you have provided to us.

We will only send you direct marketing in relation to our own products and services by electronic means (including email):

  • Where you have consented to this (where your consent is required by law); or
  • Where you have not objected to this, and we are marketing similar products and services to those which were the subject of a previous sale or negotiations of a sale to you.

Your agreement to the use of your personal information for direct marketing purposes is optional and if you choose not to consent, your visit to and use of our websites will not be affected.

You can choose to opt out of receiving direct marketing information from us at any time, through the ‘unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of any Detertech Limited email you receive, or by contacting us using our Contact Us page.

We are continually looking for ways to improve our products and services with, for example, insurance products or other security products. If you consent to receive information about such products and services from time to time, you may also be prompted to provide details of your current insurer(s) and your policy renewal date(s).

We will use the information you provide to Us:

  • For administration purposes, namely to:
    • Process your order(s) and payment(s);
    • Send updates regarding the status of your order(s);
    • Deliver the product(s) you have ordered;
    • Deal with enquiries and requests.

  • For the prevention and detection of crime (including theft, vandalism, fraud or other criminal acts) for safety purposes and the protection of property;

  • Register your unique SmartWater codes on our database;
  • To contact you for any other purposes that we state, and you have expressly agreed to.

We will not keep personal data in a form that permits identification for a longer period than is necessary, in relation to the purpose(s) for which the data was originally collected. 

We will use your personal data only when legally permitted. We may use your data in a variety of ways that enables us to fulfil our contract with you and provide the services agreed (or for the taking of steps to enter into a contract with you); where it is necessary for our legitimate interests and your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests; or where we need to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation.

Please note that we may process your personal data for more than one legal purpose depending on the specific purpose for which we are using your data.

  1. Will DeterTech share my personal information with anyone else?

We may share your information with:

  • Any member of our group, which means our subsidiaries, our ultimate holding company and its subsidiaries, who support our processing of personal data under this policy.
  • Selected third parties.

Our selected third parties may include:

  • Our business partners, customers, suppliers and sub-contractors for the performance of any contract we enter into or other dealings we have in the normal course of business with you or the organisation we provide products/services to.
  • Our auditors, legal advisors and other professional advisors or service providers.
  • Third-party organisations that process your data on our behalf in order to improve or enhance our products/services. These organisations (which may include third party suppliers, agents, sub-contractors and/or other companies in our group) will only use your information to the extent necessary to perform their support functions. All of the third-party organisations that we use have been evaluated and comply with our due diligence protocols and we will have in place GDPR-compliant contractual agreements with them.
  • Analytics and search engine providers that assist us in the improvement and optimisation of the App and subject to the cookie section of this policy (this will not identify you as an individual).

  • In the event that we sell or buy any business or assets, in which case we will disclose your personal data to the prospective seller or buyer of such business or assets subject to the terms of this privacy policy.
  • If DeterTech or substantially all of its assets are acquired by a third party, in which case personal data held by it about its customers will be one of the transferred assets.
  • If we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation, or in order to enforce or apply our terms of supply terms and other agreements with you; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of DeterTech, our customers, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organisations for the prevention of crime and protection of property and individuals.
  1. How long will DeterTech keep my personal information?

We will hold your personal information only for as long as is necessary to discharge our contractual obligations to you or for so long as we have a legitimate and lawful purpose for doing so. 

When it is no longer necessary to keep your information, we will delete it or anonymise it.

We do not transfer personal data outside of the EU/EEA or UK. If we do need to transfer your data outside EU/EA or UK, we will ensure that all appropriate safeguards and supplemental measures are in place.

We are committed to ensuring the security of the personal information provided to us and we have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. They will only process your personal data on our instructions, and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

If you wish to exercise any of your data subject rights, as set out above, we may require you to prove your identity with two pieces of approved identification.

Please note we will retain the last known location where your unique SmartWater forensic code is registered to assist law enforcement with their enquiries, if lawfully requested to do so.
