Cover Letters for Entry Level Devs, Recent College Grad, etc?
i'm in the process of writing a general cover letter for use in the upcoming "get diet olive a job" campaign coming to a campus career day near ME. i was wondering if any of you have examples you've had success with (when you were starting out!), or pointers on what i should and shouldnt put in such a letter.
background to the question:
i will be graduating in december with a CS degree, and though i've done some software development on my own (www.fablesoft.com) and for small businesses i've worked for, i've not yet had a "real" programming job. that is, i've never had a strictly software development/QA/optimization job, and i've never had the opportunity to work in a team environment. so basically i have no real idea about how to get my foot in the door with some of the huge business visiting my campus this fall, but i've been told to make a general purpose cover letter, update my resume, and practice trivial c++ "never comes up in real life, but solve it in 10 minutes anyway" gimmick problems in preparation for MS, NVIDIA, and others.
