Inspiration
I am a first year undergrad student. This is my first hackathon. I worked alone. I don't have any friends (jk). The idea was originally to create a dystopian world because I was feeling a bit pessimistic. There should be a sense of mystery about what happened to the world prior. I blended that in with a medieval theme to create the environment.
What it does
A Little Brighter is a dystopian role-playing game where you attempt to bring hope to discouraged villagers.
How I built it
I had a little bit of prior experience in Unity and virtual reality development. I used several free asset packages from Unity, like textures, figures, and props. I learned how to create and modify terrains as well as how to make a teleportation system with checkpoints. It also took a bit of time for me to hook up the XR Rig onto Unity so I could test and run the app in virtual reality.
Challenges I ran into
I had to attend a 3-hour event during the hacking period which took away time from the project.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I learned how to use the XR Rig and how to create listener methods in C# scripts.
What I learned
I should come up with ideas before I start making the project itself.
What's next for A Little Brighter
I will expand the RPG world so that there are more interactions with more villagers.
