Inspiration
The inspiration for this project is drawn from observing the challenges that several students face in finding like-minded peers for academic based endeavors. The struggles ranged from forming effective study groups, tackling group projects (huge headache), to participating in hackathons without a compatible team. The existing limitations in personal interactions within large university settings, and the challenges introverts face in initiating social connections drew us to find a solution to this issue.
What it does
The project aimed to create a mobile application where all students, introverts included, could easily connect with others who share similar academic interests, skills, and expectations. The platform allows students to input their basic information and academic expectations, engage in like or dislike interface similar to dating aps to discover students with similar academic aspirations. Students can then chat, and collaborate with each other with hopes to build each other up.
How we built it
We developed the project using Google's Flutter and Dart for the frontend, providing an intuitive user interface. On the backend, Firebase played a crucial role offering authentication service ensuring safe user interaction. Firebase Cloud Firestore, a NoSQL database was used for effectively storing, managing, and retrieving data for the application.
Challenges we ran into
A major challenge we encountered was the difficulty in forming a complete and cohesive team, prompting us to proactively address this issue by developing a solution within the confines of HackUNT. Additionally, integrating Firebase and Flutter posed some initial challenges, but we aptly navigated and resolved these obstacles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Integrating Flutter and Firebase to create a robust mobile application within a mere 24 hours, and having just 2 members in the team
What's next for Acada Matchy
Currently, the proof of concepts provides a clear understanding of single event matching. Our upcoming plans involve expanding this concept on a broader scale to include various events and channels, creating opportunities for students to meet individuals with a similar academic focus.
