Inspiration

We wanted to make meme magic real. For too long, we have had to look at pepe-less editors, but no more! Praise Kek!

What it does

Plays a randomised slideshow of rare pepes (even .gif pepes!) in the background of atom, highly transparent so as not to alarm the frog-haters of the world. Use without fear wherever you are.

How I built it

We used atom, and developed live inside it. We took heavy inspiration from activate-power-mode(to which I have also contributed). We searched the internet tirelessly for some good pepes, and scratched our heads at how puzzling javascript and coffeescript can be to use. We used github to host our project.

Challenges I ran into

atom.io removed our package, with no explanation as to why! REEEEEE£EEEEEE!

Google cache knows the truth, though ;)

Atom's api reference hasn't been updated to the current version - and our package only works in the latest version, since it relies on new changes to atom! We had to code without using the atom api, relying entirely on html, coffeescript, less, json, etc.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We set out to make meme magic real, and we made meme magic real. Praise Kek!

What I learned

We've all become much better at digging through source code to figure out how to do something - none of us were very familiar with any of the technologies we used (besides git), so we had to get good very fast!

What's next for activate-pepe-mode

We'll be upgrading it over the next few hours, and possibly the next few months or even years. Short-term improvements would be a larger standard pepe library, as well as smoother animations, and better control through menus and settings. Some tests would be a good idea too.

We plan to integrate a machine learning project that can detect if an image is a pepe or not, to make sure that this package is never used for evil.
