Inspiration
Wanting to find interesting places to travel, and getting an idea of how far things I want to do are from my hotel, explore the sorroundings.
What it does
Airmaginary leverages Photo-realistic Google Maps (PGM) to immerse a traveler into their destination.
Finding places in the destination city, and in any city that is part of their itinerary.
That is not all, We help the traveler walk/drive less when trying to visit multiple points of interest in their destination, by using Google Directions API and the optimization option.
We also suggest activities in the destination and when you are ready, suggest flights to your destination.
Then.... get ready to fly!
How we built it
The front end interacts directly with PGM API, the Places API, Geocoding API, requests to the directions api are done through our backend written using Micronaut.
Challenges we ran into
Making 3D model interactive, we created something we call SkyCards, with show images for promotions around the destination, but we could not make them clickable. Also initial setup for PGM to play nice with Angular.
Setting the right heading for the airplane, had to resort to setting it manually vs calculating it, sometimes it will fly sideways.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to implement almost everything we wanted.
What's next for Airmaginary
Figure out the airplane heading calculation, figure out applications for other fields.
