Inspiration
When coming to DeltaHacks 2025, each member of our team, once again, faced our common challenge when it comes to hackathons, Finding teammates! Many participants felt we were too young or had a certain demographic they were looking for, without giving us the chance to demonstrate our skills. In the world of entrepreneurship, presentation is key for kick-starting your ideas. However minorities and underrepresented groups experience prejudice on a whole other level than what we experienced, making business opportunities less accessible. This realization was what kicked off our DeltaHacks XI project, AnchorPoint
What it does
Anchor Point is the network for entrepreneurs and investors to collaborate towards innovative projects and technology without any restrictions. By using semi-anonymous profiles, entrepreneurs and investors can find connections solely based on what ideas and solutions align with their values. Users can explore options for sponsors and investors from the filter search bar. Once an entrepreneur and a company has made a connection, they can communicate through live chat to further discuss details for their project.
How we built it
We made this platform using a website application with Typescript and Vue with Vite. Auth0 for safe user authentication to reduce identify fraud when using the platform. Tailwind and Shadcn components were used for the layout and styling. Pinia for state management, and Firebase for the database.
Challenges we ran into
The hardest was starting the project for us. We wanted to be very meticulous about our project idea and the languages/tools we wanted to use to build it. Moreover, we were unconfident about our abilities to tackle such an ambitious project with so many features, with just 3 high school students.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Within the 24 hour deadline, we were able to present a completed project with all the intended features we thought of.
What we learned
We became proficient in data communications through handling user data between Auth0 and Firebase, as well as through coding real-time chat rooms between users. What we learned from creating this meaningful project will become valuable experiences that will be applicable in professional settings
What's next for Anchor Point
If we had more time to develop this platform, we would add more tools for collaboration on the platform, including video calls, whiteboards, and possibly integrating an AI bot available to assist in the real-time chats.
