Inspiration
In finding creative ways to complete to project, I was inspired to create something from a quote from Kurt Vonnegut as he suggests to practice all art forms to "experience becoming, to find to what's inside you".
What it does
The product is a Social Creative App that looks to inspire others and push creative boundaries by a randomized prompt generator that demands to draw emotions from specific experiences of one's life. As AI is something that is of concern in this world, I have learned that AI cannot replicate creativity or have the ability to detect emotions. With a timed session of 2 minutes, the app forces users to create something with whatever skillset they have to a given art. It does not matter if the user is good or bad at whatever task is given, it forces users to take risks and explore themselves in finding creative solutions. The prompts themselves are meant to get the most critical moments of an individual that AI cannot replicate. Furthermore, users can collaborate with others and add more to other projects through other art forms t continue inspiring and motivating their communities. In all, [art]forms is a product meant to be a fun, open space for creatives to create different art forms with no judgement.
How we built it
To first understand the problem, I began by researching the potential threat of AI with creative jobs. From there, I researched what AI lacks and what bias they could potentially bring. As I conducted adequate research for a couple of hours, I started to do a mind map and think about how to approach this project. I created a user persona to try and help identify pain points better. At first, I was thinking about a team-building app that would focus on drawing out solutions, picking the best ideas, and improving the worst ideas. However, I did not think it would've fostered creativity as greatly as I would have liked it to. I wanted to incorporate a storytelling aspect so, I thought I might make a social journal that might document every creative's journey to their art or creative process. After another hour of attempting to apply a solution, I eventually came down to a social creative app that allows users to practice different art forms just to get creativity flowing.
Challenges we ran into
Trying to find ways in encompassing every aspect of the prompt. I was stuck on the ideation process for about 6 hours until I went to go for a walk. I felt like the ideation process was the most difficult because the prompt was incredibly vague yet specific at the same time. A couple pivots were also made in considering time however, I believe I came up with the best solution that fit all standards of the prompt.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of completing the tasks and the project regardless of outcome and despite not being able to find a team. This was a great experience that I have learned to appreciate with the process with working alone.
What we learned
I've learned that it could sometimes be hard to work within a time constraint and that breaks are extremely important for productivity and brain activity.
What's next for [art]forms
To build out the system and test in with more users and research.
