Inspiration

AstroMine combines real asteroid mining possibilities and space exploration into a fun, educational Reddit game, inspired by past hacks like r/pixelary and r/chessquiz.

What it does

AstroMine turns the idea of mining far-off asteroids into a dynamic, social game based on Reddit's Devvit platform. Here's how:

Explore Asteroids: A new asteroid—such as 16 Psyche, 22 Kalliope, or 21 Lutetia—pops up every four hours as a post, featuring a cool 3D model. Mine Resources: Pick your approach—dig shallow with a basic shovel or deep with advanced tools.

Manage Resources: Monitor your collection of minerals and employ them to improve tools and increase your efficiency in mining.

How we built it

AstroMine was developed with Reddit's Devvit platform, which enables total compatibility with live API data and interactive posts. We developed a system that:

Schedules Posts: Automatically posts a new asteroid every four hours, using actual data to determine its name and description.

Manages Tools and Energy: Uses Redis to track player energy and has mechanics for mining depths.

Provides Seamless Interaction: Uses Reddit's API to update leaderboards and cycle results automatically, giving a smooth experience from mining to trading.
