Inspiration

Dating apps often feel shallow, focused only on surface details and quick swipes. We wondered if people could truly connect better by knowing each other’s energy before they ever meet. That sparked the idea for Auras, an app powered by AI to help you find matches who actually vibe with your personality.

What it does

Auras lets you create a rich, AI-powered persona through a fun personality quiz. Other people can chat with this AI persona first — they get a sense of who you are before deciding to reach out. This way, people who connect with you appreciate your energy, not just your photos.

How we built it

Auras came to life from a single prompt, one fun and conceptual message to Bolt that set the vibe and kickstarted the whole development process! I did the design work and came up with a color palette and design philosophy, and selected my choice of technologies to bring my vision to life, namely OpenRouter+Deepseek for persona based chatting, and ElevenLabs for real-time voice calls with a simulated persona! During the arduous task of integrating all of this, Bolt was a lightning-fast assistant along the way.

Challenges we ran into

Crafting a chat experience that felt human, and not robotic, was a big hurdle. Managing vibe coding for the first time could be daunting, as often the prototype has to be studied carefully for design inconsistences, of which I found many and applied a continual refinement process throughout the development cycle.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

I'm most proud that I built a dating app that genuinely encourages deeper connections before a first conversation. Our AI persona feature is unique, and the glowing visual identity reflects the heart of our app perfectly, playful, yet meaningful. I'm proud of using out-of-the-box LLM tools like DeepSeek and ElevenLabs in a unique and unusual way, putting a clever twist on how we expect AI matchmaking could work, and putting the user, not the algorithm in the driver's seat.

What we learned

I learned much about vibe coding, it's limitations and how to ship a polish, refined demo in record time using it to manage around ~5k lines of code as a solo developer. I learned how to bring agentic voice assistants into any application, which is very cool and powerful!

What’s next for Auras

The goal is to expand on this concept with the goal of revolutionizing AI powered dating. Hopefully to pitch this product, go live and share it with all of you to enjoy!
