Inspiration

We originally planned for our game to be an online multiplayer game connecting two players, however after facing many issues, we continued with the same idea except without the multiplayer integration. We have a gameplay system that allows players to switch back and forth between their past and future selves. Things change over time, and so will the game...

What it does

In Back In Time, the player has the ability to switch between their past and future selves to solve different puzzles. Remember that things change over time. There are currently two game levels and a single tutorial level to help players get acquainted with the gameplay.

How we built it

We built this game using the Unity game engine and some Unity Store assets and some custom made assets.

Challenges we ran into

Our original vision was to create a multiplayer p2p integration using webRTC and mirror, however we faced many issues in the process and finally decided to scrap the idea to save time. We decided to carry on using single-player with two different possessible characters. Another challenge we ran into was creating levels; some of our levels had concepts we had to scrap due to them being boring or not working well with the gameplay mechanics.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a fully functional and fun game in such a short period of time, especially considering our switch from multiplayer to singleplayer part of the way through. We are also proud of the game's time mechanic that makes it stand out and an overall fun game. Finally, we are proud of our easily expandable level creation system that allows us to set up new levels with all the gameplay mechanics in a very small amount of time.

What we learned

We learned how to utilize Unity's collaboration service for smoother workflow and better tracking. Because we cannot actually conference together, we learned how to utilize online communication platforms in order to convey ideas to each other. Furthermore, we learned how to create an extremely expandable and easily integrate game system that can save loads of time.

What's next for Back In Time

Because of our powerful level creation/game integration system, we can quickly expand the game and add more thought-provoking and immersive levels! ~
