inspiration

We want to create a secure way of storing immutable and accurate translations through blockchain transactions that is more accurate and updates more quickly than automatic translation services such as Google Translate or outsourcing to translation companies which may be expensive eg. TransPerfect. Translators can submit their translations via a secure platform for them and their managers. They need to submit a small amount of Ethereum with each translation via a smart contract, but their manager can view this publicly and pay them back an appropriate amount for their work.

Translation companies are already making use of NLP but have yet adapted Blockchain. Through a combination of Blockchain and Google Translate comparison, this allows translators to translate mroe accurately and have their work quantified by crypto.

Since blockchain is a distributed ledger, this allows anyone to join and become a translator on the platform instead of managers taking out extra time on hiring translators or finding alternatives when their inhouse translators aren't available to submit an urgent translation.

We developed use cases for translators and managers in the planning stage.

As a translator

  • I want my search queries to return results quickly
  • So I can get my work done faster
  • I want my translations to have an autofill function
  • I want my traslations to be submitted correctly
  • I want to have the document to be translated on the side
  • I want a Google Translate API as a reference to my manual translation

As a manager

  • I want to check the translator and editor's work
  • I want to import the translation files to send to my clients easily or publish to the web (view page source)

what it does

Translators can get paid by Ethereum and transactions are submitted every translation as Proof of Work. Managers can view transactions by Translator Wallet Codes, which in turn represent the amount of translation work that's been done. Therefore this allows transparent viewing of how much work each translator has done and the amount of income they should receive for their work.

aim

  • to speed up translations
  • to allow translators to receive an appropriate income
  • to allow any translator to join the platform
  • to allow managers to pay translators appropriately

how we built it

  • remix virtual IDE
  • solidity
  • html/css

challenges we ran into

  • time difference
  • making sure team members do equal amounts of work but also happy
  • navigating server-side database requests (php)

accomplisments we're proud of

  • writing a functional smart contract
  • working with new people

what we learnt

  • solidity is a ecmascript-like language that is intuitive to read but takes time to pick up
  • blockchains can be deployed for various fields, not just finance

what's next for Invincible

  • venture capital to compete against traditional translation companies
  • collaborations with publishing companies to promote the platform
  • possible implementation of Editor tab, which would allow Editors to have functions in addition to functions available for Translators eg. use case - I want to do the work quickly such as typo detection, grammar detection (Grammarly), links to synonyms or dictionary I want the translations submitted to render correctly (ie. matches what the translator put in).
