Inspiration
We wanted a secure storage for BTC that we knew was reliable. Cold storage is a unique way of protecting a user's Bitcoins because it stores them offline. Since online currency is becoming more and more popular, the use of cold storage will be critical in the future to protect against hackers who will try to take advantage of the rise in crypto's popularity.
What it does
BloxWallet is the first secure cold storage for BTC that can connect to the internet for transaction purposes and store public keys via image scanning.
How we built it
We used a raspberry pi, python, linux, light nodes and other hardware.
Challenges we ran into
This was our first time using this type of hardware. Most our experience is on the software side so it was a challenge to learn how to use the new hardware.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We used camera technology to read public keys into the cold wallet. We also made a practical solution that allows someone to store BTC offline, instead of online where it is vulnerable.
What we learned
We learned the importance of cold storage with regards to cryptocurrency. Cold storages are capable of storing cryptocurrency offline which helps to protect against hackers.
What's next for BloxWallet
We would like to expand BloxWallet's capabilities to be compatible with more currencies so they could all be stored securely.
