Inspiration
We wanted to find a way to combine our team name, boolean bandicoots, and the theme of the hackathon in a way that would help raise awareness to this endangered species. The result: a game within a zoom call that allows you to help a bandicoot named Bandy on their search for the golden ladybug.
What it does
Plays a minigame complete with a start, end, and store screen.
How we built it
We created this project using Java and the extension java.swing. In order to create the graphics, images were found through google and edited to be transparent and scaled to fit the screen. The start and end screens were designed through Figma.
Challenges we ran into
We worked across timezones (from EST to IST). At the start of the project, we were not familiar with using java.awt or java.swing, nor did we have any idea how to create a video game. During the creation of the project, we had to find a way to create user movement, have bugs and rocks continuously fall from the screen, and had to learn how to use arraylists to accomplish this goal. One of our team members had to go to work because a coworker had a medical emergency. We managed, through it all, to create a finished product from scratch, though!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made an entire game from scratch using only java extensions for the first time! We are proud of our product!
What we learned
How to create a user interface with java.
