Inspiration

We love BOS and the hundreds of decentralized applications it features. Ushering a new era in how people interact and access their favorite apps. While the concept and technology are great, it is also overwhelming for users who first encounter BOS. It is not immediately obvious what the difference of “components” and “apps” (which are of course also components, just more “user ready”) are, especially for non-developers. Near already provides a ton of resources for the developers, but we feel like there is also the need for a “user first” approach, that only focuses on giving the user a good overview of all the existent applications on BOS. It should be straight forward to connect your wallet, instantly see the apps available on BOS and use them. And that’s why we created BOS-HUB a user first, easy to use Appstore, exclusively for applications build on BOS.

What it does

BOS-HUB is like the Apple app-store but for all the applications on BOS. You can instantly see the most popular apps, measured in how many people bookmarked them or trending applications. As soon as you open our Gateway you can browse through the applications and by one click bookmark them, so you can always see them in your library. You can either start your applications from your library or while instantly in the browser window. We also put a big emphasis on the display of the different applications, that is why we hide our header as soon as you open an application. To enjoy it in full-screen. Our Gateway also gives you great feedback on which applications are currently popular, by tracking how many people added them to their library in the last 24 hours. Or simply see the all-time most bookmarked apps to know which apps are a must have. Later it will also feature user reviews, serving both as feedback for other users or the developers to improve or fix their applications. Our website starts with a spotlight section, featuring interesting new applications or giving some additional information, like new updates. Also on the top section is a search bar, to search for all applications.

How we built it

We first started out by looking at the the example gateway and then adding the necessary dependencies in our own project, to have a barebone and empty gateway. We then started creating our browsing page. We built the project in Next js, using Javascript and Tailwind CSS.

Challenges we ran into

The scope of the project quickly got out of hand as we had so many cool ideas for our appstore. It was difficult to decide which features to include and what could potentially be done later, or simply

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we could fully include our "Full-screen" application feature, as we feel this really improves how users can experience the diffrent BOS application.

What we learned

The hackathon was a really good chance to really look under the hood of the BOS and learn how much styling a Gateway does and what is included in the components.

What's next for BOS-HUB

During the Hackathon we had so many new ideas, to make our app-store even better, but of course we only had so much time. But now we have a comprehensive list of things we want to implement next, those include:

-More categories -Detailed app descriptions -User created app bundles -App tutorials -User reviews -More options for the developers for adding their application to our gateway -Donate option for developers
