Inspiration
when we first heard the prompt, we concluded after some thinking that not many people would try to tackle all three branches of health at once. Phone addiction is a mental, physical, and spiritual problem! it interrupts every aspect of life, and so we decided we needed to make something that targets it. as well, we are all high school students that have the common experience of opening social media on our computers while studying, so we drew inspiration from experience and something that affects most of our generation.
What it does
Buddy Lock will create a pop up that times you out from certain websites and gives you time to refresh your mind and reflect on if going on the website is necessary
How we built it
we used html and java script
Challenges we ran into
generally, creating the browser extension itself and figuring how to create one. however once we started, it was smooth sailing. unfortunately, we haven't been able to launch it on accounts other than those used to make it, so we cannot give you a usable link
Accomplishments that we're proud of
it worked!!! and making our first chrome extension and our first javascript project.
What we learned
stuff can work if you make it happen. we consulted a lot of online sources and did a ton of research to be able to make a functioning project with a brand new language in just 12 hours.
What's next for BuddyLock
Buddy Lock has the potential to become a time management app that assists you in a way more under your control than how your typical screen time timeouts work. It also has the potential for more prompt screens that give users refreshing tasks that hopefully change their mind about opening their time-wasting website.
