Inspiration

At USF, we haven't yet found a website that is friendly for all majors and has everything a student would want to look for. So we created this website where a student can choose their department, their majors and view Instructors teaching those majors along with their ratings as well as all the courses in the major, clubs related to the major, tutors available to teach as well as additional resources.

What it does

For now, we focused on the engineering major specifically computer science to deliver a comprehensive data set of professors teaching CS, their ratings, all the courses in CS and what is taught in those courses. A user can also link up to student clubs related to CS as well as connect to tutors.

How we built it

We used flask framework of python to connect frontend and backend. The frontend used html, css, bootstrap and the backend used python to process the data base of professors, their names, emails their ratings as well as the courses and the description of each.

Challenges we ran into

We used flask as we learnt on the go. So connecting the front end to the back end was bit of a headache but we managed to pull it off with the help of Mentors like Nick.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

IT WORKS!! Using bootstrap was new, using flask was entirely new to us so learning and implementing and debugging and seeing the web elements function sparked joy in our miserable life.

What we learned

SQL!! The workshop introduced SQL an entirely new concept to us. We learnt how to use cockroach database but we couldn't implement it in our project idea. But learning flask as well as the connection of front end to back end for first timers was a great success.

What's next for BULL'S YARD

We are planning to add a system to the resources section where each user can add resources they think are useful and other students can upvote to support his post. . We are also planning to add course difficulty and suggested time for registration. We also will work on allowing students to leave a review and rating for professors as well as work on the other departments and the authentication when a user logs in.
