Inspiration Many people experiencing poverty or homelessness struggle to quickly find jobs, shelters, or food. Existing services are often scattered, difficult to access, or require digital skills that some users do not have. We wanted to create a single, simple platform that makes critical resources immediately accessible to those who need them most.

What it does Calythra helps users find jobs, shelters, and food in one easy-to-use platform. The Jobs Module allows users to call a hotline and generate a personalized resume quickly. The Shelter Module uses a short questionnaire to match users with nearby shelters. The Food Module provides an interactive map and AI-powered recommendations for meals based on location and dietary needs. The platform is designed to be mobile-friendly, accessible, and simple to navigate.

How we built it We built Calythra as a web-based dashboard with modular components for Jobs, Shelter, and Food. We used Leaflet for the interactive maps and designed hooks for future AI or language model integration. The platform follows mobile-first principles, with large buttons, readable fonts, and simple workflows. By focusing on a minimum viable product, we were able to demonstrate the core features without overcomplicating the system.

Challenges we ran into One of the biggest challenges was designing a platform that is accessible to users with limited digital literacy while keeping the features functional. Integrating AI recommendations conceptually was difficult without a real-time backend yet. Additionally, we had to balance simplicity with functionality because too many features could overwhelm users.

Accomplishment were proud of We are proud to have completed a fully functional MVP that demonstrates the Jobs, Shelter, and Food modules. We created a design that is user-friendly and accessible for vulnerable populations. We also built the platform in a modular way, which will make it easier to add new features or AI integrations in the future.

What we learned We learned that accessibility and simplicity are just as important as functionality. Modular design is valuable because it allows new features to be added without redesigning the system. We also realized that small design decisions greatly impact the user experience, and making the platform intuitive is critical for adoption.

Whats next for Calythra Next, we plan to integrate real-time AI-powered recommendations for jobs, shelters, and food. We also want to conduct user testing with target populations to refine workflows and improve usability. Additional features like automated resume enhancements and expanding the platform to more regions are also planned. Finally, we aim to explore partnerships with local organizations and social workers to better support our users.
