Inspiration
We built this game because we wanted something cute and light, a game that makes people happy while playing. The sheep is a random choice of animal we all liked, and cotton candy looked just as fluffy as our main character Sprinkles(yes, we gave it a name).
What it does
Are you tired of quarantine? Do you desperately need some cute and relaxing games to kill time? Are you always searching the web for more adorable animal pics? Then Candy Fluff is just the right game for you.
Who wouldn’t want to help a fluffy ball of sheep collect cotton candy? Not to mention the exciting Fast & Furious race between you and shearers. You can even fly with a balloon while evading the swooping eagles.
Player Instructions
Jump up while you’re on the ground: up key
Get down when you’re floating: down key
Avoid eagles and shears, collect cotton candy
How We built it
We chose Godot as the developing engine for our game because of its simplicity. Also, its support for realizing a small-scale project as a minimum viable product in an extremely short time fits the duration of a Hackathon on weekends.
Challenges We ran into
- Familiarizing ourselves with the Godot development environment and documentation
- Designing features for the game
- Finding the sound for Sprinkles’ death
Accomplishments that We’re proud of
- Were able to come up with good designs
- Coded out the backend rather smoothly with no prior experience in game dev
What We learned
- Online collaboration requires well-managed version control and efficient communication
- Adding juicy elements (i.e. sounds, visual effects, bgm, interactions, etc.) to games in order to hook the players
What's next for Candy Fluff
Adding more complex game play controls and various features.
