Inspiration
We were inspired by a mix of Spidey Cents created by Arya P, Crystal Chan, Jenny Tran, Anita Yip. We were inspired by their quiz game but however we wanted a bit more movement and for the quizzes to related more specifically with credit cards/credit scores in general.
We were also inspired by Capital One's article: https://www.capitalone.com/learn-grow/money-management/why-did-my-credit-score-drop/
It's fun to make games where people can learn- so we were also inspired by other learning quizzes.
What it does
Capital Quest helps players to learn more about credit by making them answer quiz questions so Capital can reach the center of the board so they can reach their friend One. Every one step they take, they will have to answer a question relating to credit and if they get it right they can move one step forward or they have to answer the question again until they get it right.
How we built it
The project is built using React. As a first step, we planned the mock-up design using Figma and selected the features we wanted to incorporate. Due to time constraints, we concentrated on only two features of the app. The first feature is the movement of the game character, and the second one is the quiz. The app's user-friendliness was further enhanced by applying Bootstrap and Material UI in addition to React library.
Challenges we ran into
We are a team of mostly first-timers participating in our first hackathon. As part of our 48-hour challenge, we had to pick up a new technology stack such as React, as well as learn how to collaborate using Figma. It was very difficult trying to implement the things we wanted with new tools so we had to cut and suffice with what we have.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our proudest achievement with the project is how it caters to a wide audience of people of all ages to learn about finance through interactive UI design. We are proud that we manage to get this much done in the amount of time we had.
What we learned
We learned that communication and quick decision making is needed to try and put together a collaborative project. We also learned a lot about about credit ourselves while creating the game.
What's next for Capital Quest
- Embedding the Quiz UI to the board game as a pop up
- Creating more questions, currently there are only 15
- Trying to add One in the Center of the board so the player knows that they are supposed to reach there
