Inspiration
We know how annoying it can be when you get a toothache. The usual response we get from our doctor is "You need to brush your teeth better. Use circular motions and cover every part of your mouth." Yet, after a while, we get another toothache and the doctor's advice is the same. The result? Our teeth are aching and our smiles are suffering. So, what can we do about it? Spend $150+ on a fancy electric toothbrush that will tell us what we did wrong? What if we don't want to spend that much money or we prefer using a normal toothbrush? That's where CheeseIt comes to help us!
What it does
What CheeseIt does is gather data about your dental habits such as the frequency of brushing your teeth, the quality of the motions that you make with your toothbrush, as well as how well you are able to cover all six quadrants of your mouth. That information is then sent to our mobile app which displays it for you in easy-to-interpret graphics.
How we built it
We used XML for the front end and C# (Xamarin) and SQL (Google Cloud) for the back end of our mobile app. For further information on the design of our app, refer to our schema attached below.
Challenges we ran into
Since an application of this kind requires a complicated analysis involving Data Clusterization for processing the raw data into categorized information, we spent a lot of time on the conceptual development of our device and application. Despite that, we were able to produce a working prototype with some basic functionality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to come up with a unique concept combining software and hardware, create a prototype of the mobile application, all that while being a team of 2 people.
What we learned
We learned a lot about mobile app development using the .NET framework. Also, we learned a lot about conceptualizing and designing a complex project, involving multiple subprojects. Last but not least, we improved our communication skills to effectively share our ideas and thoughts with each other.
What's next for CheeseIt
We are planning on finishing our MVP (Minimum Viable Product), testing it in a real environment with interested users, and turning it into a startup.
