Inspiration
While chess has stood the test of time, evolving over thousands of years, we saw an opportunity to modernize it with fresh, engaging rules. Our aim is to breathe new life into this ancient game, making it even more compelling for today's players.
What it does
Chess 10 revolutionizes the traditional game by introducing a unique en passant rule applicable to almost all pieces, adding a whole new layer of strategy. Additionally, the game breaks the two-player mold by enabling multiple participants to engage in a 3D chess experience.
How we built it
We leveraged the power of Three.js for 3D graphics, along with Vanta.js to create an animated 3D background that sets the stage. The 3D models were crafted using Blender, and the game logic was developed using TypeScript. To tie it all together and offer a smooth UI, we employed React.
Challenges we ran into
Testing every chess edge case for our backend was a complex endeavor that required meticulous attention to detail. Additionally, integrating the renderer with the chess logic presented its own set of challenges, as we had to ensure smooth gameplay without compromising visuals. On the frontend, integrating Vanta.js and React with our backend game logic was difficult.
Achievements we're proud of
We're proud to have successfully completed Chess 10 within the tight hackathon timeframe. Our achievements include not just remaking the classic chess game, but also innovating it with new rules. We took the game into the third dimension, and designed a 3D frontend that harmonizes with the game's 3D essence.
What's next for Chess 10
The journey for Chess 10 is far from over. We aim to further enrich the gameplay by introducing innovative mechanics like piece merging and dice rolling. Additionally, we're working on a configuration menu that will empower players to customize their gaming experience by selecting the rules they wish to play by.
