Inspiration

In order to keep Chester Cheetah engaged with today's generation, we're helping to up his tech game by entering the crypto sphere. Consumers are able to redeem a code inside each Cheetos bag purchased for a cryptocurrency known as 'Chester Coin', enabling them to acquire collectible coins while creating an engaging talking piece between consumers and the PepsiCo team.

What it does

This solution sparks engagement with consumers by allowing them to accumulate crypto-like Chester Coins that belong exclusively to each individual. This excitement creates a large influence since many people will desire to save up these coins that they can easily obtain by purchasing Cheetos products. Besides the possible value they may hold in the future once the codes are discontinued in products, the coins can be used for fun raffles with cool prizes, engaging with Chester and Cheetos fans!

How we built it

We started by creating wireframes of the website design in Figma. Then, we started work on the backend code, using MongoDB as our database to store user account information as well as each user's Chester Coin wallet. Our front end was coded in JavaScript and React, with HTML and CSS. We used Express.js and Node.js to communicate between the front and back end.

Challenges we ran into

We experienced some difficulties with the MongoDB connection during the beginning of development which slowed us down at first.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

At first, while bouncing ideas around, we thought that implementing something similar to cryptocurrency into PepsiCo's marketing strategy was laughable. However, we thought more about this idea and were able to bring it to fruition in a serious manner that would benefit both the company and consumers.

What we learned

We learned a lot about forming a business strategy from the point of view of PepsiCo's marketing team, brainstorming how we could captivate consumers and engage them with PepsiCo products with new technology. Some of our members learned more about backend development for the first time as well as the React.js framework.

What's next for Chester Coins

In the future, there would be implementation to keep track of each product that a code comes from, allowing PepsiCo to analyze which products are the most popular for their consumers. We also planned to add a "recent activity" section to the dashboard, which would keep track of code redemptions, trading activity, and reward claiming for users. We also plan to move to AWS to store our blockchain.
